Instead of it looking good on paper and dissapointing, HeatWave looked bad on paper but ended up being a very solid show of exceptional wrestling action. The crowd was hot all night long, which I am sure made for a great atmosphere in Dayton, Ohio. It had everything that a ppv should be, good wrestling, tag team and singles, clean finishes, superb mic work (by the Dudleys), some good future angles to work with, and best of all a really good main event that delivers. And the best part of all is things are destined to just get better in ECW land come August 27th (TNN debut) and especially September 19th (Anarchy Rulz PPV). It's ECW 4 life baby! **** 1/4 (out of *****) CHRIS CHETTI & NOVA BEAT DANNY DORING & ROADKILL.....Decent opener, a lot better than I thought it would be. Before the match Doring proposed to his "loose" lady (have no idea what her name is but she's good looking) and ended up using a condom as a ring when she accepted. Funny stuff! Anyway, Nova really was the MVP of this match, throwing together some crazy moves. Near the end, Chetti did his usual spot where he wants to dance and Livin La Vida Loco starts playing. As usual also, Doring's lady comes in the ring and is all over Chetti. Nova then starts yelling at Chetti. Chetti then grabs the lady and hits her with a DVD into a kind of powerslam maneuver. Doring and Roadkill get the same treatment and then both faces go to the same topo turnbuckle and hit Doring with a splash and a leg drop at the same time for the 1-2-3. **** JAZZ DEFEATED JASON.......So-so match, but probably the best woman VS man match in wrestling history, believe it or not. Jazz controlled most of the match and ended up bringing two chairs in the ring. Why you ask? Well, in a "damn, that's gotta hurt" spot, Jazz puts one of the chairs on Jason's groin and then takes the other chair and swings it down there. Then she hits the X-factor (with a chair on the mat) on Jason for the win. *** 1/2 SUPER CRAZY OVER LITTLE GUIDO......Guido had little offense in this one. As for Crazy, he lives up to his name in this one, that's for sure. Some high spots....Crazy hits an asai moonsault on Guido off the lower level guardrail in the crowd, Crazy hits a big time plancha on Big Sal E outside of the ring, & Sal E powerslams Crazy on the concrete. The finish saw Crazy hit a tiger-bomb on Guido, giving the luchador the win. **** 1/4 BALLS AND LSD BEAT THE DUDLEYS TO WIN THE ECW TAG TITLES......An absolutely wild match here. Buh Buh really incited the crowd before the match like I've never seen. He saw a mother and a daughter at ringside and said something to the effect that the mother taught the daugther how to give good oral sex to a man. The mom ended up spitting right in Buh Buh's face. Now to the match. Everyone except D-Von bladed, so it was mighty bloody. The infamous cheese grater was used on Balls in this one. Spike also got thrown all around as usual. They all ended up taking it to the crowd and Spike dove from about 20 feet up onto both Dudleys (see pic). The action then went back into the ring where balls and Spike were given tandem power-bombs from the top turnbuckles. Sooener or later, the faces grabbed the advantage and hit their finishers on the Dudleys. It should have been over, but Sign Guy broke up the count. But not to fear, as Balls and Spike rolled up the Dudleys shortly after to win the tag titles. But the action didn't stop there, as it was double flaming tables time. Balls ended up being hal-ass powerbombed by Buh Buh and he basically missed the table, although his head went through the flames and he landed bad on his neck. As for Spike he took teh bump straight into the flamage. damn, thats gotta hurt! But still, the action didn't stop there....as Natural Born Killaz blared through the PA, it meant only one thing....New Jack is back!!! And out he came to a huge pop, annialating both Dudleys with tons of weapons as usual with our favorite O.G. Balls and Spike crawl back in the ring and New jack raises their arms in victory. ***** TOMMY DREAMER (& FRANCINE) BEAT STEVE CORINO.....This was just supposed to be an interview but it ended up being an impromptu match somehow. Dreamer and Francine came out and Tommy talked about the new ECW deal with TNN and he thanked that fans for all the support. He then started talking about his future, and was, apparently, going to announce his retirement, but before he could do that Corino and Co. came out to belittle Dreamer. Corino told Dreamer he had no guts and slapped him, which sent Tommy off. After he beat on Corino for awhile, Francine gave Corino a bronco buster (that lucky bastard!) followed by a twisting DDT for the win. The rest of Corino's crew entered the ring, along with Tajiri, and beat on Dreamer. Tajiri actually kicked Francine in the leg and knocked her down, and then he put Dreamer in the Tarantuala move (I think that's what you call it). That sent Taz out to start the ECW title match..... ** 1/2 TAZ DEFEATED TAJIRI TO RETAIN THE ECW TITLE.....Taz immediately takes it to Tajiri and dominates most of this match, which was pretty brutal. The best action came when both guys took it to the rampway to the ring. Jack Victory ended up getting thrown out of his wheelchair by Taz and clobbered with the huge apparatus! Taz then set up a table and sent Tajiri through it with a awesome Fisherman's Tazplex. He then chased Corino to the back, and when he returned he had a long string of barbed wire and ended up wrapping it around and in Tajiri's mouth! This was so graphic that ECW, in a first, had the cameras show a wide shot when this happened. At the same time Taz but on his finsiher submission move and choked out Tajiri for the win. **** JERRY LYNN AND RVD DOWNED JUSTIN CREDIBLE AND LANCE STORM.....First off, let me just say that Dawn Marie is fucking hot! She looked fine as hell coming down to ringside. Now then, to the match. All four guys worked their asses off and this was the best match of the night.. The major angle out of the match was that Credible was afraid of RVD and would run away from him whenever he was tagged in. Look for a future feud between those two. The best spot came when Strom was going to hit Lynn with a chair from the top rope and instead Lynn dropkicked the chair into Storm in mid-air. The ending saw a little error on RVD's part as he accidentally hit a frog splash on Lynn. However, that didn't matter, as Lynn hit piledriver finisher for the win. Meanwhile, Sabu came out and sent Justin through a table outside the ring. After the match, Lynn and RVD argued somewhat and then Sabu got into it as well. By the end of it all, the three guys were fighting each other. Look for a three way dance at Anarchy Rulez for the TV title to come out of that angle at the end of the ppv. **** 1/2 *PHOTOS COURTESY OF INDIGO WRESTLING ONLINE* 1. Air Spike has decended.....destination: The Dudleys! 2. It looks like it's time for our beloved babyfaces to crash and burn! 3. Tajiri is about to take a table bump following a awesome Tazplex. 4. Storm thinks he's gonna hit Lynn with the chair, but he has another thing comin, as Lynn ends up dropkicking him in mid air. ---------- |
