Mulder: Sounds like crap when you say it. I'm just wondering if there's a connection, Scully. I mean, the conditions of these bodies are reminiscent of certain southwestern cattle mutilations. Those are cases where there's no physical evidence and they've long been associated with UFO activity. Scully: Mulder, can't you just for once, just... for the novelty of it, come up with the simplest explanation, the most logical one, instead of automatically jumping to UFOs or Bigfoot or...? Mulder: Scully, in six years, how... how often have I been wrong? [Scully scoffs.] No, seriously. I mean, every time I bring you a new case we go through this perfunctory dance. You tell me I'm not being scientifically rigorous and that I'm off my nut, and then in the end who turns out to be right like 98.9% of the time? I just think I've... earned the benefit of the doubt here. |
That is so typical of Mulder. He wants Scully to give him the benefit of the doubt but he doesn't cut her any slack. He seems to have conveniently forgotten that it is her science that keeps him from looking like a complete whacko.
This episode was a bit difficult to do because frankly most if it isn't real. Everything after they get into the field is a hallucination (until the rescue.) Surprisingly enough though Mulder acts like a Punk in his own hallucinations so there's still material to work with.
Pardon my French, but Mulder can be such an asshole. When Scully asks why for once Mulder can't come up with a logical explanation without one of his jumps and he declares that he's been right 98.9% of the time and deserves the benefit of the doubt. The speech cannot be described as anything but smug. His tone is so nasty that I'm surprised Scully didn't slap him. I certainly was tempted to.
Once again Mulder acts like a jackass. After he gets the directions to Brown Mountain from the Medical Examiner he moves to leave expecting Scully to follow him. He never considers that Scully may want to stick around and run some tests on her own.
Chasing after what he ought to know is not Wallace Shiff into some kind of cave: now maybe it's just me but I don't think it's a good idea to go into strange caves alone without anyone knowing where you are. That's what the buddy system is for.
Ditching Scully in North Carolina then calling her back to D.C. with no explanation: Typical Mulder insensitive behavior.
Abducting the alien: Taking the alien to D.C. against its will is as bad as the aliens abducting people. Plus the alien was in the country illegally.
Shooting Skinner during the joint hallucination: Not exactly exemplary F.B.I. behavior.
