African masks

African Masks are often considered to be the most dramatic form of art. Symbolism is very important in the masks. Some masks are even so important and powerful they can not be seen by women or children. Some masks symbolize cultural ideas, and in some cases the masks are living to the groub that created them. It is also said that the Africans have jobs for the group, names and personalitys.
The purposes for the masks are:
1.To communicate with the gods
2.To memorialize the dead
3.To aid in hunting
4.To heal the sick in mind

African clothing

click here to go to adrinka clothing design
African clothing symbolizes who people are and the moods that they are in They use very bright colors, such as black, white, green, red, oranges, and yellows. some of the colors for example mean...
1.Black represents the earth, strength and vitality
2.White represents the death and the supernatural
3.Green represents the color of earth after rain
4.Red is the color of blood
A man named Quawmy had said that if the Africans didn't worship their gods they would worship the white men. Yet for some reason the colors seem to show that white represents death.

In some areas women don't wear shirts, but they do have alot of jewelry. They use cloth as skirts and add lots of colors to make it bright.

African scupltures

Sculptures are a big part of their culture as well. They Symbolize who they are and the gods and elements. Known as earth, fire, wind and light.Everything that makes up the people in Africa can be different from country to country, there is no special way of dressing or sculpting. Scuplting is a way for the Africans to open up to society and at the same time worship the gods. In the US we go to church to worship the gods, but in africa they show there culture, beliefs and ideas behind their art.Common Materials used are clay, ivory and wood.

African jewelry

African Jewelry can be considered to be living just like people. Groups use it to show where they are from, the religious beliefs and who they are. Each piece is worn for a reason, ranging from aesthitics to identifiying marks of society or group. The Climate and available resources has alot to do with how the jewelry is made and how it looks. People can use from animal skins to ivory to gold. Gold is considered to be the work of the devil. In the desert the only metal they use is sliver.Glass and Shells are valued for their associtation with protection and fertility. The most precious material is ivory, it used to be that only kings could use it,but now only important people can. Other materials used are Brass, copper and coral.
