I can't remember the name of the first band that played, but they were from Ottawa and were pretty good.
When the bands were switching my two friends went in the hallway to get a drink, and saw Danny. One said hi the other kept going. (she said she didn't know what to say to him. Silly Dorth!)
I think it was like 45 minutes later that The Watchmen came on the stage. The crowd was quite small (only like 400 people maybe) but it was in a small room, so more people might not have been good. Since it was a small show, there were no barriers from the stage to where the audience is, so I was right against the stage! I was at the right side by Ken because he's my favourite. At the concert in Toronto in Nov '98, he gave me a drumstick! I asked him if he remembered me and he did! About the middle of the show, he went and took the set-list off the stage and gave it to me! I think he confused Danny at one point because he looked down for the list and it wasn't there. They played a new song they are working on, and it sounds great. (of course) They had the title listed as Gray, but Danny said they are probably going to rename it. The last time I saw them they didn't play Shut Up, but this time they did, so that was great, although they didn't play Run & Hide which is a big favourite of mine. I've seen them three times now and they haven't played Top of the World once yet. (which I have to say is my favourite song of theirs--maybe they'll play it at another Toronto concert! *hinthint*) No matter what songs they play, they still get the crowd jumping and singing all the lyrics. I've been to quite a few concerts now and these guys have this energy that not many other bands have. After the show, all the guys stayed in the hallway for awhile to sign stuff and get pictures. I got my In The Trees and Brand New Day cd covers signed (I already had Silent Radar signed). I wasn't able to get the McLaren Furnace Room signed because I went to Ken first so I obviously didn't take it out of my bag, then when I went to Joey, my friend took my bag and I forgot to get it out. Joey accidently smudged his first signature on In The Trees, but he signed it again, so all is well. I was so upset that none of my pictures with them turned out because of the lighting and my flash being broken. I got to talk to them more and they are just so amazingly nice. Some bands are cranky when you meet them but The Watchmen seemed to like being able to talk to all their fans. Ken and Sammy were sick and I got whatever it was, but I would still go near them if I had the chance to do it again. If The Watchmen are playing near where you live...go see them, you wont be sorry.
