TEACHING METHODS

   Lecture/discussion, presentations, guest speakers.

The course is conducted as a seminar, a Socratic teaching/learning
strategy in which students analyze a topic through group discussion.
Students take the major intellectual initiative during seminars.
The instructor facilitates the seminar using discussion group leadership
techniques, which include but are not limited to offering and adding
information, clarification or terminology, and focusing the discussion.
Thus, the seminar is a guided discussion based on the principle that
desirable learning outcomes occur when students have opportunities to
argue and debate, compare and contrast, judge and conclude.

References are provided to students on topics to be discussed. Students
are expected to participate fully in seminar discussions and use the
readings as one basis for their participation.
