Uncontrolled Development

Common law and common sense are ignored.  Smart growth requires that water should not be "collected and concentrated" and pushed downstream on neighbors.

"Good drainage" is part of the infrastructure that speeds development at the edge of urban areas. The paved over, built-up areas contribute to "flashy" drains - drains that rapidly fill up with water. The wetlands that used to soak up water and prevent flooding are drained.  Parcel by parcel extra water is added to drain systems. Downstream flooding occurs.  Pollution is passed downstream and eventually into the Great Lakes.  Municipal sewer and storm water systems are overwhelmed.

It is time for a new way of thinking.
