POPS SHARES HER FAVORITE SONGS THIS TIME

HOW does a singer decide to choose a new list of songs for a new album considering the fact that she has already done almost all the songs she would like to record?

Two years away from celebrating two decades in the recording business, Miss Cielito L. Fernandez, a.k.a. Pops Fernandez, never thought she’d be having this problem. For several years while she had completed nine albums, she had always-brilliant concepts in mind until her 10th release came. “I said, it should really be different. Not every recording artist gets to reach their 10th. But I am just fortunate to be able to make it with 10. So the more I should make this 10th one really special,” shares Pops.

Looking at her nine releases, Pops realized she never had a revival album that many successful recording artists have done so far. Now, how can she do it but make it still different from the rest who did it before her.

Pops reveals: “Again, I’m so fortunate to be given leeway by boss Vic (del Rosario, top man of Viva Records/Viva Entertainment Group – the No. 1 OPM record company which Pops chose to become her new record studio) to try my expertise as a singer. I told him I wanna do all my favorites songs in one album to make it really, really special to me and share it with my followers. He agreed and even gave me a very good record producer to truly realize this one, Ben (Escasa).

“All my songs are not simply revivals, but these are songs I’ve treasured for a long time now since they were recorded by the original artists. These are songs I was singing when I was growing up, and now that I am adult. I’ve included songs that I feel are part of my life. That’s why it’s very fitting we call the album "MOMENTS.”

Pops continued: “Songs like Just When I Needed You Most’, which is my carrier single. One Hello’, ‘Come What May’. ‘Don’t Cry Out Loud’. Basta mga memorable songs for me remind me of memorable moments in my life. Some are sad, and some are happy songs. And you should see the packaging. I conceptualized that too (giggles).”

This special cover through is a limited edition so you should grab a copy now. It’s a “photo album” type of CD cover, which contains Pops’ personal photo collections and quotations handwritten by Pops herself. Special selling of this showcase-signing at SM City, on November.

You should see her complete cut list, and check out for yourself what songs you can relate to and who you think pops had in mind the moment she was actually recording the songs at the Amerasian Studio. Here it is: “After the love is gone”, “It’s Sad to Belong (to someone else)”, “Fallin’”, “How do You keep the Music Playing”, “Where is Love”, “Goodbye to Love” and two Tagalog cuts “Paano” and “Bakit Ngayon ka Lang”. Have you guess it right?!

“I’m so thankful for all these blessings I have in my hand right now. I really treasure these moments and I share it with my children who have been my inspirations all these years,” the teary-eyed Concert Queen divulged.

Pops happily shares these thoughts as if reminiscing the time she was barely 15 singing after doting godfather Senator Tito Sotto encouraged her to try the record industry. And then came “Penthouse Live” which started the saga of a Pops Fernandez in tinseltown.

Fresh from a high school life from international School Pops thought fame and showbiz would just be for a moment and back to a normal life. She’s entering her two decades in the biz in the coming millennium, she just released her 10th album, her first ever serious film “Linlang” will be due this November, and she has her hands full of hosting jobs, one at “A.S.AP.” So who says it’s ever gonna be normal again.

Looking back, it is 18 years ago now. Eighteen (18) long years of happiness, loneliness, achievements, life, birth of two angels, husband, and again solo life. But no matter how good or bad it was, and is now… for Pops every step of her life is a special moment which she continues to share with love and compassion with people she loves, and people who loved her back. And these feelings she shares with them, with everyone in MOMENTS.
