Background
Hiryu is one of the Striders. In fact, he is the best of the elite "C" Class Striders. Strider Hiryu first appeared in 1989, on a mission to find his missing best friend, Kain. Throughout time, Striders have been used to neutralize world threatening situations. With Onslaught unleashing his wave of destruction, Strider Hiryu is again the man for the job. Sometimes I wonder if the best of the Class C stands for the best of the Class Cheap. Strider certainly gives Wolverine a run for his money, in terms of who the cheapest character in the game is.

Strategy/Comments
- Double Jump Combo: The first part of combo can consist of Jabs, Shorts, strongs, and Forwards. Jab can not be used consecutively in the combo. As Jab, must be followed by a Short, Strong, Forward or Strong. Shorts can be repeated, a short can be followed by either a jab, short, strong and forward. A strong can not be repeated consecutively. A strong can only be followed by a Forward in the first part of the jump. A Forward can be repeated consecutively once, a forward can be linked into a jab, short, strong or forward in the first part of the jump. The last move in the first part of the jump should be a short or a forward as the are the easiest moves to transfer into the second part of the jump.
- The Second part of the double Jump Combo allows for more hits. In this part of the combo Jabs, Shorts, Strong , Forwards are permitted. Moves like Fierce, Roundhouse and Ame No Murkamo can be used only as the air combo finisher. Don't use a finisher until you are ready to end the combo.
- Like Captain America, Strider has the ability to double jump. Use this to completely avoid beam supers and also to throw off your opponent's timing. It can also be used to give his sword extra priority in air battles.
- Dashing In: S.Jab

- Mid Air Confrontations: J.Fierce or SJ.Fierce
- Strider's sword can reach across the screen. Keep this in mind, as you will be able to hit many unsuspecting opponents with it.
- If you are caught in a close battle and need a safe way of chipping your opponent to death, use his Legion super. The Birds and leopards cover the entire screen and your opponent will be forced to block. Also, if you see Chun-li do something like a Kikosho and you are a good distance away from it, use the Legion super. It will break through the bubble and she will take a good deal of damage.
- The Ouroburos is definitely Strider's most effective super. It tends to connect best on bigger characters. Typically, Strider players slash high or low depending on how their opponent is blocking and the super connects.
- If you see your opponent pull out the Ouroburos, do whatever you can to stay away from him. Air dash, double jump or triple jump, just make sure he can't get near you. If he does, chances are you're going to end up getting hit.
- Strider cannot trade hits with a powerful opponent; while he can dish out hits, he can't take them. Watch your meter and avoid being tagged with things like Hulk's Fierce or something like the Soul Eraser.
- Strider is the mediocre to semi-moderately skilled player's Wolverine. Typically, cheapos looking for a character with more potential without totally losing those button smashing features pick him.
- Strider's teleport can be one of his most helpful moves when used appropriately. One of its best uses is helping the Ouroburos connect. Another is helping Strider get out of tough situations. The button you press determines what part of the screen he will appear on. Use your judgement to figure out which one is best.
- Strider is able to cling to the walls, similar to Spiderman. If you need a place to stay while your opponent is firing a super on the ground, just cling to the wall until the super is completed.
- Learn the proper times to use his Formations. If you want to force an opponent out from a spot on the screen, use the bomb dropping eagle. If you want to halt a constant dasher, try sending out the leopard. The orb should be used if you want something to aid you while dashing in.
