Venom
To sum it up: The Spider Crusher.
Background
Eddie Brock was once a reporter for the Daily Globe. Eddie wrote a series of major articles about the "Sin-Eater Murders." Unfortunately, the person who had confidentially confessed to those murders was lying. Soon, the authorities made Eddie reveal the identity of the alleged murder, which he did in an exclusive story. However, Peter Parker found out who the real murderer was; it was detective Stan Lane. Eddie was humiliated, and in order for the paper to maintain some modicum of credibilty, Eddie was fired. Needless to say, Eddie was extremely mad at Peter. Well, as fate would have it, Eddie was praying for forgiveness, due to thoughts of suicide, at Our Lady of Saints Church. Spiderman happened to be there, trying to shed the symbiote costume he had been using since the Secret Wars. Spiderman had figured the sound of the large church bell would force the symbiote to release itself from him. Well, for Peter the plan worked; the symbiote was detached from him, although Peter was the first one to give out. The symbiote found Eddie praying and soon attached itself to him, and thus began Eddie's career as Venom. For quite some time, Venom used his powers for evil, to fight Spiderman and exact his revenge. Later on, Eddie went on to help Spiderman fight Carnage. Eddie or Venom is currently an anti-hero, like Deadpool. He now dwells in San Francisco and serves as a protector of the innocent.

Strategy/Comments
- Venom is mostly a defensive character. To play with him effectively, you will have to get your opponent to come to you, but without breaking through your defenses.
- I'm going to first discuss how to defend with Venom. Venom is most effective staying in the place looking to thwart his opponents attacks to get close to him. If your opponent wishes to dash in on you or stand back , fireballing away you can simply use the fierce punch button and hit them with Venom's elongated jaw. Be careful as this move is neither the quickest in startup or recovery time. You don't want to throw it out randomly to see your opponent jump over it and combo you. The Jab Web line is an ok move to try to tag your opponent with. Try to use it to keep your opponent honest. It may connect if your opponent is sleeping. The symbiote rush is an ok ground defender keep in mind that it can be effective if you want to force your opponent to stop and block. Please keep in mind that you are going to have to get the distance right, or else it will miss and you will be in some trouble. I really don't recommend the Venom Fang as a defensive move.
- Venom is actually quite good at defending against air attacks. His S.Roundhouse is one of the best air defender in the game. This move displays high priority and also multihits. Keep in mind that you can always block a jump in with Venom and then quickly hit S.Strong. This should give you an 11 hit air combo if performed right and your timing is good. Keep in mind that Venom has fierce 90 degree and strong 45 degree web lines at his disposal. The Fierce version can always be used against headstomps and the strong version as they plan to jump in.
- Attacking with your opponent is tricky with Venom. Smarts and discretion are musts if you wish to be successful. Your dash is one of your tops assets here. Venom gets low and dashes like a spider along the ground. Here gets low enough to go under most fireballs, if you get the idea. Just be quick about and dash when they least expect it. I guess the Venom Fang is considered an offensive move. This move will get Venom from one side of the screen to the next in good time. Make sure it and connects and make doubly sure you don't over jump your opponent. If your opponent blocks the attack the quick ones will be able to hit you with a launcher before you have time to block. They will be particularly effective with those characters that have a C.Fierce as a launcher. Few opponents will counter like this, but the better ones will. If you overjump your opponent even the brain dead opponents will be able to counter. So again be careful. Stick to the Jab Venom Fang, as it has the least recovery time. The Venom Fang does have it advantages, it can be done from both the air and the ground and it comes out quickly.
- Use Venom's air dash to escape pressure once you've been cornered. Simply jump up in the air and press forward twice. Venom will swing to the other side of the screen on a web line. Do this especially when the smaller quicker character get too close. Venom does not thrive on up close fighting. His attacks are just not quick enough. Your are best off getting over to the other side of the screen and regrouping. Then just begin your game plan again.
- If you are going to use Venom, you had better know how to air combo. To be honest with you the air combo is a big part of his arsenal. Those that can't air combo with Venom on a consistent basis will not rack up big win streaks.
- The correct use of Venom's supers is next on the agenda. The Venom Web does not do chipping damage and cannot be comboed, but it does have it uses. The Venom Web should be used against constant fireballers. If your opponent is sending out three or four fireballs in a row, anticipate the next ball and go for the Venom Web. If you see the motion for a fireball super start up, (ex. Shinkuu Hadouken), simply use Venom Web. Another time is against overaggressive dashers. If you see Wolverine in the motion for a Berserker Barrage, again use Venom Web. Wolverine will pass by you on the ground and will then end up in a Cocoon.
Yet another time the Venom Web is good is after blocking a super like say Ken's Shorryu Reppa or Captain America's Hyper Stars and Stripes. Theses types of moves leave the opponent vulnerable in the air for a considerable period of time. Simply Web them up before they are able to come down. The Death Bite is an extremely useful super. It does blocking damage, is easily comboable and offers little lag and recovery time. The Death Bite combos very easily, you had better be able to set it up everytime you have get either a J.Roundhouse or S.Jab to connect. It doesn't take much practice, so this should be second nature. You should know that this move has very little lag time, if you see your opponent pull out a super with a good deal of lag time, Death Bite. This move will beat them out before they can get their super in motion. If you are stuck at the end of a close battle, use the Death Bite to get that last bit of damage taken care of. You'd be best off doing the move from a corner as it makes it toughest for your opponent to escape completely.
- Venom is great against small character's that have to come to him. He has the necessary tools to keep them from ever reaching him. However, when the character doesn't have to come his way, Venom is going to have some difficulty, which means you'd better be resourceful. Dashing and jumping and blocking may be necessary, but with some patience and good judgement you should be able to get the job done.
