If those couple of eye blinks brought me this far, I think I
better not blink the rest of the trip!
A wise man once said this about us human beings: As for
man, his days are like grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind
passed over it, it is no more; and its place acknowledges it no longer. (Psalm 103:
15,16)
Let me quickly bring this to my point. Our time here is
precious
too precious to be wasted on things that matter little. Jobs, houses,
land, promotions, money, position and a host of other things have some importance, but I
heard someone say one time that a man on his death bed will never wish he had spent more
time at the office
.. Ah the things that are important on your death bed!
You know, the things that matter on your death bed need to begin
to matter now. That approach could change the direction of your life. And change now could
bring more peace and meaning to that last breath here just before that first breath beyond
here.
Our journey on this earth, though fleeting is of great
importance. We are here for preparation to live with our Lord in an eternal realm. Not too
unlike the courtship of a man and woman as they spend time to get to know each other, we
are here to get to know our Lord.
Most of you reading this have some kind of relationship with the
Lord. If you do, like me, it needs to deepen. If you dont, then seek Him out because
He can be found and finding Him will begin to bring meaning to your life. You will still
encounter problems and struggles and maybe even more so at times, but you will have a
Friend that will bring His presence into the situation. If I am unclear, then let me say
cold blooded and flat out that you need an encounter with Jesus Christ that will leave you
passionate to know Him well!
Im not sure there is anything more important than getting
to know Him. How do we go about it? Well I am not here to write down a formula. I am
struggling through this adventure also. I have tried some spiritual formulas
before and for the most part they have left me real unfulfilled.
But I know this
.we get to know Him and His ways by
the things we experience and the way we respond to those things
we learn to
trust Him in the trials and the good times
..on the mountains and in the valleys of
life
...in the hurts as well as the comforts.
Know this
.Your Lord wants to be known a lot more than you
may want to know Him. If you are the least bit interested in Him, it is a good indication
He is pursuing you. It can be a scary thing to know that God is after you, but it would be
a scarier thought to me to think He may not be after me.
If your heart has a desire to come into fellowship with God, I
would suggest you get still long enough to just tell Him of your desire and let Him begin
to fan those sparks.
Folks, unless we are actively pursuing Him, our lives have little
meaning. We fill our lives with so many things, and seek so many ambitions, trying to fill
a void in us that is in the shape of God, filling it with so many other shapes and always
coming up empty.
An old man that I admire once said these words: But
whatever former things I had that might have been gain to me, I have come to consider as
one combined loss for Christs sake. Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss
compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (the overwhelming preciousness, the
surpassing worth, and supreme advantage) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of
progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him (of perceiving and
recognizing and understanding Him more fully and clearly). For His sake I have lost
everything and consider it all to be mere rubbish (refuse, dregs), in order that I may win
(gain) Christ (the Anointed One).
Those words are in the Bible by the way (Philippians 3: 7 & 8
Amplified version). Paul of Tarsus said those words. He had a lot going for him. He was
educated
.powerful
.the world was at his fingertips
...but compared to
knowing his Lord, he counted it all as garbage. He had found the meaning of life when he
found Jesus Christ.
In a letter to Timothy (one of his coworkers) near the end of his
life, he said, I have fought a good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept
the faith. Lord, at the end of my life may I be able to say similar words. May you
also be able to say similar words.
