PDLJMPR Web Magazine, October 22, 1998
On September 9th, 1998 I received an e-mail from Les Myers through the Spridgets list asking if anyone would be interested in updating PDLJMPR for an issue or two this fall and winter. It was a message, that if I think about it, I was hoping for. I had been secretly thinking of ways to add to the Web site for months. You see PDLJMPR isnt just any old Web site to me. It is responsible for getting me hooked on the Internet. I still have it as the first Web page that comes up when I bring up my browser. I used to go to PDLJMPR every day or two to look at the ads or to follow one of the links that were there, searching for Spritedom.
I have always thought of PDLJMPR as the gate to Spritedom on the Web. I think Les Myers deserves a lot of credit, that like Donald Healey with our Sprites, he saw a need and created something to satisfy it. I live in Upstate New York and don't have a local Austin Healey Club or really know very many people interested in "LBC"s. So when I bought my computer a few years back I went searching for anything related to Sprites or Austin Healeys. PDLJMPR was one of the first sites that came up from a search of the Web. I thought the stories and pictures of other Sprites were great.
The ads from PDLJMPR are actually responsible for one of the two Sprites I own. I responded to an ad for someone looking for early style hubcaps, met a new friend and a year and a half later I traded a half started 59 Bugeye project for a very beautiful early Sprite Mk II. AN6L622 (BRG with white racing stripes, 61 Mk II) and AN5L47650 (Highway Yellow 60 Bugeye) are my Sprites. I hope I can convince many more of you to tell me about yours.
Well these are the reasons I answered Les e-mail and said I would like to help. I want PDLJMPR to continue. I want PDLJMPR to keep filling that need for information, stories and pictures of cars, people, and events centered around our shared love of Sprites and Midgets. Everything from the Bugeyes strange and wonderful headlights to the final Triumph powered Midgets.
I am thinking of adding letters to the editor or putting back the old PDLJMPR's feedback section. Drop me a line. - ed
