An Italian Pilot in WWII
Sergente Maggiore (Flight Sergeant) Alverino "Nino" Capatti was born Dec.
30, 1920, in Dogato, Italy, a tiny village in the countryside around Ferrara.
(The approximate location of Dogato is 45 degrees 45' N, 11 degrees 55'
E.) During his childhood, Nino became fond of aviation and began building
model airplane kits. He joined the Regia Aeronautica (Royal Italian Air
Force) when he was 17 years old. Here you will find several photographs
taken by Nino, by his contemporaries, and by me. Brief explanatory notes
accompany each photo. Nino's terracotta bust in the photo above was sculptured
by Prof. Tomba from Bologna.
Technical information about Italian aircraft can be found at Elevon.
