Watcher Of The Skies

The 1st.RAF Plotting the Downfall of JG26

I was born in 1902 in Maidstone Kent, the county known as Englands Green and pleasant Garden. My Father was a Teacher by proffesion, as was his Father before him. He was a very Modern minded man for the period, and introduced many new ideas into lecturing locally.

I went through schooling and soon developed a love for Sport, and Cricket in particular, and whenever I had a spare minute, I was always to be found putting Willow to Leather. I played for the county under 18s when I was 15, and by the time I was 19, I was a established member of the Senior Kent County Cricket Club. I was never happier, than when playing my beloved game of Cricket on a soft, bright, English Summers day

Life went on for me in this pleasent fashion until a leg injury forced me out of the senior squad at the age of 30. I had meanwhile married my beloved Mabel, and we had three wonderful children, and meanwhile I had developed a career in local Government.

It was by now 1932, and even in those early days the echos out of Germany were not very encouraging, but nobody was prepared to believe that the Horrors of the first World War could be repeated, We were all proved terribly wrong.

I joined the RAF in 1937, and built up a strong friendship with Lord Rush, an honorable man, who looks after his men, as if the were the fruit of his loins. A more caring Group Captain you could`nt wish for...

As I relate this tale, we are planning our Squadron Operations for the expected Luftwaffe activities in the morning. Its been a long hard day, as they all are, long hard weeks really, and we can only do our best, and hope that the boys come back home.... I have just been promoted to Recruiting Officer.

Recruiting Officer Griffin.
