Tour Home Page Welcome to our guided Virtual Tour of Disney's Animal Kingdom! What's New?
Due to the reduced attendance at WDW, Disney's Animal Kingdom Hours are now 9am to 5pm except for 8am to 5pm during Thanksgiving week November 18 to 24. The other WDW parks have also reduced their hours. Early entry for Disney hotel guests has been discontinued as part of the general cutbacks. Show performances have been cut back as well - check show times as you enter the park. The special Canadian WDW offer is back. From October 22, 2001 to April 30, 2002 Canadians can purchase special 7-Day Park Hopper Plus passes - the second special pass is half price when purchased at a Canadian Disney Store or a Travel Agent in Canada (like Sears or CAA). Unlike regular full-price passes, these special passes expire on May 13, 2002. See the Canadian WDW website (www.disney.ca). Is this a good deal? Yes, if you intend to spend 7 days at WDW before May 13, 2002. For me, I usually only spend 2 or 3 days so I would rather purchase a regular hopper pass that does not expire. The two new rides in DinoLand USA are previewed on the official DAK website - TriceraTop Spin (opening Winter 2001), a Dumbo-like spinner; and Primeval Whirl (opening Spring 2002), a spinning roller coaster/wild mouse.
A new parade - Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade - officially launched on October 1, 2001. It features Disney characters on safari in this "interactive street party with a tribute to their animal friends". All four parks started new parades October 1st in celebration of "100 Years of Magic". More rumors of new construction at DAK have surfaced recently, possibly Beastly Kingdom? See the Beastly Kingdom Updates page .
You'll notice some area name changes - Safari Village is now Discovery Island and Conservation Station is now part of Rafiki's Planet Watch. A new area, Endangered Animal Rehabilitation Center, has been set up in Pangani Forest. It features black and white Colobus monkeys, Mona monkeys and Duiker (a small antelope). For early risers, The Awakening starts the day at DAK 15 minutes before opening (8 am). Rafiki welcomes you with many safari clad character friends along with some small animals. WDW did raise prices this year. I've finally updated the price pages on this site. See Updated WDW prices.
See DAK 2001 News Clips for more information and some restaurant reviews.
No internal signs of activity on the new Beastly Kingdom area, but the Safari Hotel is coming along well. See DAK July 00 Updates.
Jessy reviews "Tarzan Rocks" with lots of complements. Disney's FastPass Ride Reservation System has been expanded to cover more popular attractions and now includes CtX, Kilimanjaro Safaris and Kali River Rapids. See DAK August 99 Updates.
Andrew reports on the changes at DAK from a late June visit - details in the July 99 Updates. Unfortunately his photos have been lost in the mail.
New FAQ pages have been added to DAK Resources : A FAQ with details of ride accessibility for disabled, DAK FAQs 2 and a FAQ with websites and contacts for jobs at DAK, DAK FAQs 3.
Disney has announced a 12 city US "Animal Kingdom Outpost Tour" April 17 to July 11 to promote Animal Kingdom. Our new index/home page, DAK Resources, and WDW Resources are online to celebrate the anniversary of our first visit to DAK March 5, 1998. See March 99 Update
Three new pages have been added - It's Tough to Be A Bug has been moved to its own page. A new page of Frequently Asked Questions containing answers to touring plans, disabled touring, transportation, etc. A new page on Beastly Kingdom rumors, plans and construction info. See March 99 Update
Has construction started on Beastly Kingdom? Earth moving equipment has been at work to the west of the Oasis. Rumours are that Beastly Kingdom is being designed with a "Dare the Dragon" stand-up dragon-themed coaster, and a Quest for the Unicorn maze. See February 99 Update
Asia's official opening is March 18th, and the Annual Passholder's Sneak Preview is March 6 and 7 in the morning. If you're in the park, be sure to check to see if they're running previews of Mahrajah and Kali; they have been opening often. Even Kali has been allowing the public on some of the preview days. Official Disney site links have been added; see the new Disney Links section in the Site Navigation column.

With Andrew working at the Canadian pavilion at Epcot in 1997/1998 in the
WDW International Program, and on the DCL Disney Wonder in 1999, we've been closely following what's happening at WDW, and with our frequent visits to Walt Disney World, we thought we would put our experiences and photos together.
We were able to join the March '98 cast preview of Disney's Animal Kingdom, which provided the opportunity to build a virtual tour of the new park, the way we did it for the preview. More photos were added from subsequent visits in 1998 and 1999. Photos from visits in 2000 and 2001 are still awaiting uploading.
Thanks to Andrew for the new site logos and animation, and more pics. Take a look at his Epcot's World of Motion site, and his experiences in the WDW International Program.
Enjoy! Ron Saito
