THE PURPOSE OF HAJJ
Quran speaks about the origin of the House of Allah

Remember We made the House a place of assembly for mankind and a place of safety; and take you the Station of Abraham (Maqam Ibrahim) as a place of prayer; and We covenanted with Abraham and Ishmael that they should sanctify My house for those who encircle it, or retreat in it and bow and prostrate. Abraham said, "My Lord, make this a peaceful land, and provide its people with fruits; provide for those who believe in god and the last day." Allah said, "I will also provide for the disbeliever; I will let him enjoy for a while, then commit him to the retribution of hell, and a miserable destiny" (2:125-126).

As Abraham raised the foundation of the shrine (of Mecca), together with Ishmael, they prayed, "Our Lord, accept from us, for You are the Hearer, the Omniscient. Our Lord, make us a Muslim nation (submitting) to you. Teach us how to practice our religious rites, and redeem us; You are the Redeemer, the Merciful. Our lord, and raise from among them a Messenger who would recite for them Your revelation, and teach them scriptures and wisdom, and sanctify them. You are the Almighty, the Wise" (2:127-129)

You shall complete the Hajj and Umrah in the service of Allah. And you are prevented, then offer a sacrifice and do not shave your head until your offering has reached its destination. But if you are ill or suffering some head illness, then you may shave your head, and expiate fasting, or giving a charity, or some other form of worship. During the normal times of peace, if you break the state of sanctity between Umrah and Hajj, then expiate by offering a sacrifice. Those who cannot afford it may fast three days during Hajj and seven when they return home, thus completing ten, provided they do not live at the sacred mosque. You shall observe Allah, and know that Allah is strict in enforcing judgement (2:196)

Hajj shall be observed during the specified months. Thus, whosoever sets out to observe Hajj shall abstain from sexual intercourse, evil deeds, any wrangling throughout Hajj. Whatever good you do, God is fully aware thereof. As you take provisions for the journey, remember that the best provision is righteousness. You shall observe Me, O you who possess intelligence.

You commit no sin by seeking commercial benefits during Hajj. WHEN YOU FILE ARAFAT, YOU SHALL COMMEMORATE ALLAH AT THE SACRED SHRINE COMMEMORATE HIM FOR GUIDING YOU; BEFORE SUCH GUIDANCE YOU WERE REALLY STRAYING. YOU SHALL FILE TOGETHER WITH THE REST OF THE PEOPLE, AND SEEK GOD'S FORGIVENESS. God is forgiver, merciful. ONCE YOU COMPLETE YOUR DUTIES OF WORSHIP, YOU SHALL CONTINUE TO REMEMBER ALLAH, JUST AS YOU REMEMBER YOUR OWN FATHERS, OR EVEN BETTER. Some people may say, "Our Lord, gives us in this life," while they have no share in the hereafter (2:197-200)

Other would say, "Our Lord, give us good in this world in this life, and good in the hereafter, and spare us the agony of hell". Each of these will reap the fruits of their work, and god is most efficient at reckoning (2:201-202)

YOU SHALL COMMEMORATE ALLAH DURING THE APPOINTED DAYS. Thus, if you complete this in two days, you commit no error, and if you stay longer, you commit no error, so as long as you maintain righteousness YOU SHALL OBSERVE ALLAH, AND KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE GATHERED BEFORE HIM (2:203)

During the rites as detailed in the above ayaat (2:197-203) we are repeatedly reminded to observe or fear Allah, commemorate Allah, ask for His forgiveness and commemorate Allah and forgiveness for our progenitors and continue to commemorate His name during the "appointed days". THUS, IN QURAN, THERE IS NO MENTION OF COMMEMORATING IBLIS ASHSHAITAN BY PELTING HIS THREE PILLAR INCARNATIONS!

Is this "Pelting the Devils" rite of Hajj, one of his subtle methods of making the Pilgrims to remember him instead of "Commemorating Allah"? Allah had already warned us that Shaitan is our Ardent Enemy (7:22, 17:53) and Iblis had already promised Allah that he would attack us and displace most of us from in His straight path ("Siratakal Mustaquim") (7:13-17). Definitely, Hajj is part of Siratul Mustaqim of Allah! And An Avowed Enemy would never rest until his vow is carried out!

It seems that Shaitan is not worried about those who are outside the "Siratul Mustaqim". So, he concentrates on those who are on God's Straight Path ("Siratakal Mustaqim" - as he said exactly). His modus operandi is as he revealed to Allah: "I will always hide in Your straight path (Siratakal Mustaqim), and mislead them. Then I will come to them from their front, from behind them, from their right, and from their left, and you will find most of them unappreciative". People other than the Servants of God ('Ibaadullah') find it difficult to resist the whispers into their heart by Shaitan! (38:83)

Allah commands Believers to abstain from intoxication, gambling, anything dedicated to idols, dividing of meat by throwing arrows and all satanic abominations so that they will succeed. "The devil wants you to instil enmity and hatred among you, through intoxicants and gambling, and wants to divert you from remembering God and from the Salat. Will you then abstain?" (5:90-91). "O people, eat from everything that is lawful and good, and do not follow the steps of Shaitan; he is your ardent enemy. He directs you towards vice and evil, and to invent lies and attribute them to Allah!" (2:168-169). In addition, he beautifies our own deeds more alluring to us, thus making it irresistible! (16:63)
