Appointed Messiah

People today accept that Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ. Statements from the old testment are produced this claim that Jesus was the Messiah promised to the Jews.

The word CHRIST, however is not a name. It is a title, a translation of the Hebrew word Messiah, meaning ‘anointed’. The Greek word for ‘anointed is “Christos’ from which we get the word Christ. Priest and kings were ‘anointed’ when being consecrated to their office. The Bible confers this title even to a heathen King Cyrus.

In the religious context ‘anointed’ means ‘apointed’. Jesus was appointed at his babtism by John the Babtist.

In the Bible, not only were the prophets, priest, and kings anointed, but also horns, cherubs and pillars also had this honour.-

‘I am the God of Beth-el, were you anointed a pillar…?
Genesis 31:13

‘If the priest that is anointed do sin ….’ Leviticus 4:3

‘…The Lord shall..exalt the horn of his anointed’ I
Samuel 2:10

‘Thus saith the Lord to his anointed to Cyrus…’ Isaiah 45:1

‘Thou art the anointed cherub…Ezekial 28:14

Although every prophet of God is an anointed one of God, a Messiah or its translation of ‘Christ’ is exclusively reserved for Jesus son of Mary in both Islam and Christianin. There are certain other honorific titles which may be applied to more than one prophet, yet become exclusive to one by usage.
