LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE

The beginning of October 1994 saw another tragedy surrounding a strange cult. This time Switzerland and Canada were in focus when over 50 people were reported to have committed suicide. Investigations by the police revealed that most of them had been shot, including a baby.

This sect, the Order of Solar temple, led by Luc Jouret enticed people on the teachings of 'feel good' psychology of the New Age and then initiated them into free sex and led members into donating money.

Brainwashed followers held black masses and swapped partners. The Doomsday Order collected a huge arsenal of weapons to prepare for the end of the world.

This incident is an echo of similar catastrophes, which happened in Waco and Guyana. David Koresh was the cult leader who perished in flames with 78 of his followers. A battle between cult members and FBI followed in which 4 agents and 6 members died. Subsequently two followers were each jailed for 40 years for taking part in the horror event.

Another cult bloodbath took place in Guyana. The `Bishop' Jim Jones persuaded 900 of his followers to commit mass suicide.

He exhorted them to drink fruit juice laced with cyanide. Those who didn't take part in this mass self-slaughter were shot. This bizarre ritual included many children.

Jones of this People s Temple believed that the USA was on the verge of nuclear war. In reality he was just another doomsday merchant.

Cults and splinter sects are proliferating all over the world. Their motives are exposed by their greedy and self-interested leaders. Their tendency is to preach simple universal truths and lead their followers into darker chambers. Brainwashed subjects can then be kept by fear and anyone who does not share the sects beliefs is condemned to hell- as if the decision is theirs!
The leaders claim divine inspiration and through the `revealed' instructions they are able to gain control over their followers.

Almost without exception the cult leaders predict the end of the world. If we look at the Waco, Guyana and now the Switzerland experience, this seem to be a contingency plan of the leaders to eradicate their followers (not necessarily themselves) when problems catch up with them.

Any self styled messenger can foretell the end of the world, but to actually fulfill the prophecy is something else, especially if it falls within his lifetime. Perhaps this is why these doomsday predictions are made many decades before they are due.
