Story: My Name is Asher Lev

"It is a modern city, made cheerful by greenery, with decorous, functional houses, clean and orderly, with beautiful avenues traveled by efficient public transport and few automobiles." (Page 167)

The trees are like bright lamps that light up the city and help to keep it alive during the lull of the mid-afternoon hours. The main streets have been freshly cleaned and they now seem to sparkle like they are waiting for a figure of importance to enter their town. The citizens of the town are slowly becoming accustomed to their new modernized city. The public transport systems are like a helper that assists people in the busyness of their lives. They are all in favor of these systems because it makes it much easier to travel through their city now. The buses slowly pour smoke out the back as little dark clouds of smog. The pollution is the only trade off. The smog is a snake that slowly makes its way into the air. The people of the town do not seem to notice the smog as they board or exit the buses. It has become as natrual to them as taking the buses themselves. The houses are moderately space like a mix of the city and the country. Most of the houses on the street look very similar to each other. The houses are like models that have been laid down one next to the other in a mold.
