Noteworthy and/or Hit LPs

1974

Tiny Dancer's additions:

Abba - Waterloo

("Waterloo," "Honey, Honey")

Originally released as Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha & Frida (also the original name of the band before someone came to their senses!) this was their debut in America but actually their second album.

America - Holiday

("Tin Man," "Lonely People")

April Wine - Electric Jewels

("Weeping Widow," "Electric Jewels")

April Wine - Live

("I'm On Fire For You Baby")

Bobby Bare - Bobby Bare Sings Lullabys, Legends And Lies

("Marie Laveau," "Daddy What If," "The Winner," "In The Hills Of Shiloh," "The Mermaid," "Rosalie's Good Eats Cafe")

This fabulous double album was my introduction to Shel Silverstein, he wrote all of the songs. It gave Bobby his first number one single ("Marie Laveau") and proved to me that country didn't need to be boring at all!

John Denver - Back Home Again

("Grandma's Feather Bed," "Thank God I'm A Country Boy," "Annie's Song")

Is there a more beautiful 70s love song than "Annie's Song"? I think not myself.

Neil Diamond - Serenade

("Longfellow Serenade")

The Four Ways - Gettin' Around

Noteable for purely personal reasons, this was the album my parents released that I spoke of on the 1971 page. The lead guitarist, Rod Rumble, wrote three songs on the album one of which ("Four Ways Of Love") was a top ten single here in Canada (if anyone has a chart with the song listed *please* let me know!). The album also included a cover of Rolf Harris' "Two Little Boys" which is my son's favorite lullaby, Don Williams' "The Shelter Of Your Eyes" and Lonnie Donegan's "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On The Bedpost Overnight)" which was a huge hit at their concerts. Nominated for a Juno, as I mentioned earlier, this was unfortunately the only album they released and the band broke up a few years later. If you have a copy, treasure it if only for my mother's beautiful version of "The Shelter Of Your Eyes".

Barry Manilow - Barry Manilow II

("Mandy," "It's A Miracle")

Barry's second album, he was on a roll now with the huge hit "Mandy".

Joni Mitchell - Court And Spark

("Help Me," "Free Man In Paris")

Olivia Newton-John - If You Love Me (Let Me Know)

Linda Ronstadt - Heart Like A Wheel

("You're No Good," "It Doesn't Matter Anymore," "When Will I Be Loved")

Huge seller (over two million copies) and her rendition of Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It" won her a Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal.

Barbra Streisand - The Way We Were

*sigh* THE romantic movie of the decade and a beautiful theme song to boot. Kiss me, Hubble!

Three Dog Night - Hard Labor

("Sure As I'm Sitting Here," "Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues)," "I'd Be So Happy," "The Show Must Go On")

Three Dog Night - Joy To the World: Their Greatest Hits

("Joy To The World," "One," "Sure As I'm Sittin Here," "An Old Fashioned Love Song," "Let Me Serenade You," "Shambala," "Black And White," "Never Been To Spain," "One Man Band," "Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues)," "I'd Be So Happy," "Liar," "Family Of Man," "The Show Must Go On")

THE greatest hits album to own for Three Dog Night, everyone had a copy and it still gets massive airplay at my house.

Various Artists - Jesus Christ Superstar: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album

("Heaven On On Their Minds," "Pilate's Dream," "I Don't Know How To Love Him," "Gethsemane," "Could We Start Again, Please?")

I know a lot of folks enjoy the original 1970 cast album with Deep Purple's Ian Gillan as Jesus but this is the version I heard first and fell in love with so Ted Neeley IS Jesus to me. Yvonne Elliman had a major hit with "I Don't Know How To Love Him" and she appeared in both versions if that makes you purists feel better ;-)

Paul Williams - Phantom Of The Paradise soundtrack

Great cheesy movie and fab soundtrack, I especially love "Old Souls".
