IRISH


     JAMES IRISH was b. abt 1690 Oxfordshire, Eng., d. Gorham, Cumberland Co., Me., about 55 years of age. James was married to ELIZABETH (_____).

   He arrived in Old Falmouth (Portland), Cumberland Co., ME about 1711 and resided there or about 26 or more years. All of his chilldren were born in Old Falmouth with the possible exception of his son William. James departed Old Falmouth sometime after 1737 and settled in Gorham, Cumberland Co. where he purchased half of a one hundred acre lot (#85) from Capt. John Phinney. James and his family remained in Gorham until the Indian War at which time he, along with a number of other settlers in the area retreated to less exposed settlements until the hostilities came to an end. At that time he returned to Gorham and resumed developing his holdings.

3. Joseph Irish was b. on 12 Apr. 1728 Old Falmouth, ME, He m. Hanah DOANE of Old Falmouth, on 10 Mar 1753; removed to Buckfield, Oxford Co., ME

4. Elizabeth Irish was  b. on 19 Apr. 1730, Old Falmouth (Portland), Cumberland Co.,  ME

5. Thomas Irish was  b. on 27 Feb. 1732 Old Falmouth (Portland), Cumberland Co., ME, Thomas died young.

6. James Irish Jr. was  b. on 21 Jan. 1736 Old Falmouth (Portland), Cumberland Co., ME; he m. Mary Gorham PHINNEY on 10 Mar. 1756.

7. Thomas Irish was  b. on 29 Jan 1737 Old Falmouth (Portland), Cumberland Co., ME; he m. Deliverance SKILLINGS, on 6 July 1759.

8. William Irish, born perhaps in Gorham, ME.; he m. Mary McCOLLISTER on 18 Jul. 1765."

     JOHN IRISH Sr. was b. on 13 Apr 1724  in Old Falmouth (now Portland), Cumberland Co., ME., and died in Buckfield, Oxford Co., Me.; m. SARAH _____. He participated in the siege and capture of Louisburg in 1745. He received a grant of land at Pearsontown (Standish), Cumberland Co., ME  for his service at Louisburg.

"1st Regiment of Massachusetts...commanded by Col. Wm Pepperill...10th Company...raised in Falmouth (Maine) in March, 1745, was under the command of Capt. Moses Pearson of Falmouth...in 1750 the General Court granted to Capt. Pearson and forty-five others, for their services at and around Louisburg, what was known as Pearsontown until its incorporation as the town of Standish. Among the names of these grantees are the following who were, either before or afterwards, connected with Gorham: Gamaliel Pote, James Gilkey, Jeremiah Pote, Elisha Pote, John Irish and John Ayer."      ABIGAIL IRISH was b. 24 Dec 1746 Gorham, Cumberland Co., ME, d. 20 Jul 1824 Buckfield, Oxford Co., Me.; m. JOHN BUCK, III.   Int. 8 Feb 1777 Gorham, ME. John Buck was born about 1754 possibly in New Gloucester, Cumberland Co., ME. and died on 4 March 1828 in Woodstock, Oxford Co., ME. He was the son of JOHN BUCK JR. and SARAH CLEMENTS.

1. SARAH BUCK was born on 12 Aug 1777 at New Gloucester, Cumberland Co., ME, and died after 1850 in Buckfield, Oxford Co., ME. She m. ENOCH PHILBRICK Abt 1797 probably in Buckfield. He was b. 11 May 1775 in Buckfield, and d. Abt 1830 in Buckfield. He was the son of JONATHAN PHILBRICK and ANNA JONES.

2. Abigail Buck was born on 05 Feb 1779 at New Gloucester, Cumberland Co., ME. She married Abijah Lapham.

3. Simeon Buck was born on 16 Nov 1780 in Buckfield, Oxford Co., ME. He married Lois Drew

4. Esther Buck was born on 25 Oct 1782 in Buckfield, Oxford Co., ME. She married John Warren.

5. Elizabeth Buck was born on 20 Nov 1784 in Buckfield, Oxford Co., ME.

6. Annis Buck was born on 15 Nov 1786 in Buckfield, Oxford Co., ME. She married Levi Turner

7. Mary Buck was born on 12 Feb 1789 in Buckfield, Oxford Co., ME. She married Luther Turner

8. Phebe Buck was born on 3 Dec 1792 in Buckfield, Oxford Co., ME. She married Benjamin Brown.
