HOPKINS-HICKS

The marriage of Miss Nettle Evelyn Hopkins to Mr. Edward L. Hicks took place at 7:30 o'clock Sunday evening at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Hopkins, 514 South Exchange. Rev. H.W. Morgan read the service.

Preceding the ceremony, Arthur Leon Hopkins, the bride's small brother, and Junior Smith sang Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms" and lighted tapers set in Candelabra at either side of the altar. Other altar decorations were ferns and palms. A sister of the bride, Miss Wanda Mae Hopkins, sang "I Promise You." Accompanied by her cousin, Mrs. Dale Merwin. Mrs. Merwin also played the wedding march from "Lohengrin."

The bride was attended by Miss Loraine Fitch, a cousin of the bridegroom, and Evan L. Hopkins, brother of the bride, was best man Verdilla Workman, another cousin of the bridegroom was flower girl.

The bride wore a white satin grown made on princess lines, with full skirt. The neckline was trimmed with tiny button set with brilliants. Her slick net veill was held by a spray of pink rose buds and seed pearls. She carried an arm bouquet or mink roses and white gladioli. The maid of honor wore a floor length dress of powder blue crepe and the flower girl was dressed in blue taffeta.

A reception on the lawn followed the ceremony. A tiered wedding cake decorated in pink and white roses and heart centered the reception table.

Mrs. Hicks attended Roosevelt High School and has been employed on the Crown Drug company in Emporia the past five years. Mr. Hicks is a graduate of Emporia High school and attended the Emporia Business college. He is employed with the Davis-Child Motor Company. After a two week's trip to the San Fransico, exposition and other points of interest in the west. They will be at home at 23 South Washington.

Mrs R.E. Hicks Dead

Mrs. Reba E. Hicks, 23, South Washington, died this morning at 9:30 o'clock in the Newman Memorial County hospital. She had been sick four weeks.

Funeral services will be Sunday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Roberts-Blue Funeral Chapel., Rev. Claude G. Large, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Hicks was the former Reba E. Workman. She was born June 18, 1888, in Emporia. Mrs. Hicks was the daughter of J. W. Workman, 21 South Congress, and the late Mrs. Workman. She was married to Elra E. Hicks on September 2, 1908, in Emporia. Mr. Hicks died May. 28, 1935, in Emporia. Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Willing Workers of the Grace Methodist Church and the Knight and Ladies of Security.

She is surveved by her father J.W. Workman; a daughter, Mrs. Lola B. Baldwin, of Winfield; a son Edward L. Hicks of the home; a sister, Mrs. Maude Hopkins, 21 South Congress, and a brother H. R. Workman, 5 South Washington

Hicks - Baldwin

Miss Lola Hicks, daughter of Mrs. E.E. Hicks, 23 South Washington, and Mr. Everett J. Baldwin, of Winfield, son of Mrs. E.J. Baldwin, 113 South Congress, were married at 8:30 o'clock Wednesday morning at the home of the bride's Mother. Rev. Claude G. Large read the service.

The couple was attended by Miss. Evelyn Jacobs and by the bride's brother, Edward L. Hicks.

The bride wore a street dress of grey wool embroidered in blue and worn with blue accessories. Her corsage was of Dubonnet gladioli. Miss Jacobs wore a dark green embroidered wool dress with black accessories. Her corsage was of Bronze asters.

Mrs. E.E, Hicks, Mrs. E. J. Baldwin, Miss Lorraine Fitch, a cousin of the bride, and Marvin Baldwin, brother of the bridegroom, were present for the wedding ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin left immediately for Winfield, where they will live. Mr Baldwin is employed in the oil business.

Mrs. Baldwin is a graduate of the Emporia High School and the Emporia Business college, and Mr. Baldwin is a graduate of the Emporia High school and has attended the Teachers College.

HONOR MISS LOLA HICKS

The women employerss of the Montgomery Wards store gave a dinner Tuesday evening in honor of Miss. Lola Hicks, who is leaving the store for employment in the Lyon County Credit Association Officers. The dinner was given at the Green Lantern. Those present other than the guest of honor:

Obituary of the Death of John Hicks Wed.July 13, 1932

John Hicks who for many years lived at Matfield Green, died at his home in Emporia Yesterday. Funeral arrangements had not been made.

Mr. Hicks was born November 24, 1851, at Gate Center, Mo. He came to Kansas with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Hicks in the year 1863. They located at Matfield Green.

On March 12, 1872 Mr. Hicks was married to Miss Hannah Lake. Mrs. Hicks survives him, also seven children, Steve Hicks, of Bushong, Cash Hicks, of Watsonville, Ca., Mrs. Nell Thompson, of Orleans, Miss., Mrs. Maude Roatcap, of Olathe, Colo., Mrs. Clara Linuf, of Americus, and Mrs. Laura Taylor and Elra E. Hicks of Emporia.

While the Hicks family lived at Matfield Green Mr. Hicks worked on the farm. In 1898 the family moved to Emporia where he worked for the Santa Fe railroad. He was employed by the Santa Fe for about 20 years.

Funeral of John F. Hicks

The funeral services for John F. Hicks who died Wednesday, July 13, 1952 at his home at 28 Rural Street, Emporia, was held at 2:30 Friday afternoon at the Roberts-Blue funeral ? The Rev. A. J. Pauler, conducted the services after which interment was in the Maplewood Cemetery.

The six pallbearers were grandchildren of Mr. Hicks and were Jacob Hicks, Edward Hicks, Harold Taylor, George Taylor, Lloyd Finuf, and Leo Hicks.

Mr. Hicks is survived by seven children and 25 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, besides his wife making 27 direct descendants.

Those from this county who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs Ivan Finuf and children, of Elmdale, and Mrs. John Taylor, of Strong City.

Mrs. Hannah ELizabeth Hicks 28 Rural, died at 11:05 o'clock Sunday morning in the Newman Memorial County Hospital. She had been sick for 10 weeks. Mrs. Hicks was born in Maryetta, Ohio, October 4, 1855. Her maiden name was Hannah Elizabeth Lake, and her parents were Solomon and Betsy Lake. She came to Kansas in 1865, and lived first in Matfield Green, where she was married to John F. Hicks on March 12, 1872. They came to Emporia about 1899. Mr. Hicks died here July 18, 1932. Mrs. Hicks is survived by three sons, Steve Hicks, Bushong; Elra E. Hicks, Emporia, and Cash Hicks, and four daughters, Mrs. Nellie Thompson, Orleans, Mass.; Mrs. Maud Roatcap, Olathe, Colo; Mrs. Clara Finuf, Americus, and Mrs. Laura Taylor, Emporia. Twenty-five grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Roberts-Blue Funeral chapel. Rev. A.J. Pauler conducted the services. Interment was in Maplewood cemetery - Emporia Gazette.

Wed. Feb. 14, 1934 Mrs.Hicks was the mother of Mrs. E.W. Taylor and visted here many times while the Taylor family lived in Strong City before moving to Emporia.

The death of Mrs. Hannah E. Hicks who for many years lived at Matfield Green, occurred in the Newman hospital Sunday Morning. Mrs. Hicks who was 78 years of age, had been ill for many weeks.

The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the Roberts-Blue funeral home. The Rev. A.J. Pauler conducted the service and interment was made in the Maplewood cemetery at Emporia.

Mrs. Hicks' maiden name was Hannah ELizabeth Lake. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Lake. She was born October 4, 1865, She was married March 12, 1872, to John F. Hicks and the family lived at Matfield Green for many years. In 1899 Mr. and Mrs. Hicks moved to Emporia. Mr. Hicks died there July 13, 1932

Mrs. Hicks is survived by seven children, Steve Hicks of Bushong, Elra E. Hicks of Emporia, Cash Hicks, Mrs. Nellie Thompson, of Orleans, Mass, Mrs. Maude Roatcap of Olathe, Colorado, Mrs. Clara Finuf, of Americus, and Mrs. Laura Taylor, of Emporia. She also leaves 25 grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
