Comments from Ellen: I have been looking all over, for the past 20+ years, to see if anyone else knew about Marc Singer's appearance in "The Taming of the Shrew".  Having been a fan and student of English literature, particularly Shakespeare's plays, I found Marc Singer's performance to be innovative, entertaining and comical.  I've not seen this Shakespearean comedy performed with such humour, talent, and irreverence!  Just the way he probably had it performed hundreds of years ago.  This is one of those performances that you need to have on tape...and boy is Marc Singer HOT!
Comments from Art: I just looked at your web page with Marc Singer's filmography, and want to add my comment about his performance in "The Taming of the Shrew." If anyone knows how one could obtain a tape of this performance, I would like to know. Like your reviewer, I thought this production was the most enjoyable Shakespearean performance I had ever seen and, wonder of wonders, even my pre-adolescent kids liked it. I particularly liked the way the director used the "Greek chorus" approach for the crowd scenes. And, of course, Singer was superb. If enough people wanted to see it again, perhaps PBS would give it a re-run.
Comments from Mary:  I got my copy of "The Taming of the Shrew" from the Broadway Theatre Archives last week.  I was pleasantly astonished at Marc Singer's performance.  He was powerful, funny, athletic and sincere.  The staging of the play was wonderful -- the actors who weren't in a particular scene were just offstage, still within camera range, giving the sense of a true ensemble piece.  The scenes between Marc & Fredi Olster were electric.

My favorite scene is when Petrucchio tells Kate's father that he and Kate are to be married on Sunday.  Kate is protesting physically, and Petrucchio tries to quiet her, literally tossing her bodily from his right arm to his left, finally lifting her above his head, then doing a ballet-like spin, with her still in the air!  He certainly gets to use quite a few of his muscles in this one!  To agree with one of the other reviews on your site, yes, Marc is HOT.  I'd like to say that his costume leaves little to the imagination, but it made my imagination run WILD!!
