Now, we're not into sequels. In fact, we never intended to do an "Out Of The War Zone II" -- what we intended (note the emphasis) was a nice slim zine with a series of cute little vignettes, incorporating all the little bits and pieces we weren't able to stick into the first zine somewhere. It was meant to be short. It was meant to be a Postscript. What we ended up with is another bloody book! *sigh*
A lot of things have changed since OOTWZ, just over two years ago now. Primarily, there is a wonderful new improvement -- a computer that doesn't crash its data as a hobby, is 10x faster, better, stronger, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, more data-crunching power than a Mainframe (well, 640K)... but compared to a Commodore-64, SAL is sheer heaven. So technically, then, 'the making off...' has been easier. Creatively, perhaps a little harder. A lot more extrapolation was needed, sorting out the future of this universe and the characters in it. It got to be pretty exhausting just thinking about it... which leads to the announcement that this is definitely, absolutely, categorically, (excuse while I consult SAL's thesaurus...)... certainly, decidedly, incontrovertibly, indubitably, positively, surely and unequivocally -- THE LAST! zine in the OOTWZ universe. Not that we haven't enjoyed it, mind. These people seem like old friends now. But we have, I think, explored all that needs to be explored. The story's been told. Now we'd like to thank a few people:
Tricia Ostwald again for her continued brilliant artwork. Bless you Tricia, grovel, grovel, thank, thank, kiss, kiss... Yvonne Hintz for offering constructive comments and ego-feeding... Rob Nylander at Fairplay Print for all his invaluable help in the printing of the zine... and VJ would like to thank her colleagues at the WA Turf Club for all the help they (usually unwittingly) gave with regards to the racing industry. Then she dumped that whole idea in a re-write and it never got used... oh well, thank you anyway, guys.
We listened to a lot of music while writing this zine. The EAGLES GREATEST HITS and the BIG CHILL SOUNDTRACK we shall probably always associate with this zine! And it may just be the computer-jitters, or we may just be going stir-crazy from shackling each other to the computer each weekend for 6 months, but eventually, after playing the same songs over and over again, some began to take on particular meaning to the story we were writing... Check out these some time...

Once again, please don't hesitate to contact us if you're that way inclined. We'd like to hear from you, but please keep your diatribe gentle. We have fragile egos!
