It's Better That Way
Copyright 1998 Wayne Severson

At times I remember what I try to forget
There's things to do I haven't done yet
But I'll never, I know I can't leave
'Cause I love her, this I believe
I met her in a bar as I played my guitar
She gave me a smile and I felt like a star
So I asked her, if she was a tease
And she answered, won't you join me please
She danced all night in front of the band
I asked her home for a one night stand
She declined, said it wasn't her way
And I agree, it's better that way

I called the next day, said what's on my mind
Dinner for two, a bottle of wine
And candles, for romantic light
And I promised, I'd be polite
I pick her up at two 'cause I work at night
I tell her everything's gonna be alright
My baby, you make my heart beat fast
Oh Darling, I think that this could last
She laughed and she smiled, she gave me a kiss
Then she told me it was way to early for this
Let's first be friends is what she had to say
And I agree, it's better that way

She said baby, take your time to choose
Never lie to yourself, never lose
You've got to know if you take a girl to be your wife
You've got to take her as she comes for the rest of your life
If you make no mistakes, you won't have to pay
And I agree, it's better that way

If you take your time, don't choose too fast
You'll never be alone, you're love will last
If you need some help, don't forget to pray
And remember, it's better that way

Late if the fall I bought her a ring
When I gave it to her she said it's no small thing
Are you ready? Do you know what this means?
What about children? What about your dreams?
I must admit I hadn't thought of it all
When reality hit, I had my back to the wall
And I was faced, with a child of our own
And I'm amazed, by what this has shown
We're never really ready, no matter what we say
There's always surprises, coming our way
But we do what we can, live day to day
