The History of Hy-Brasyl
Thankee all for coming to this the third in a series of history classes
sponsored by the Acadamie Arcanus the focus of this series is of course, wizardry
history but its subject matter has an affect on all of Temuair so I'm glad to see such
a variety of Aislings in attendance to review a small bit my previous two sessions.
In the first session we discussed the origins of what we now know as modern Temurian wizardry the wizardry of Aislings this started with Jaalyn Sarag as some may be familiar with who was the first wizard as we know them today the next session concerned Logan he who holds sway in the temple of choosing and he who founded the original Acadamie Arcanus a timeless and enigmatic individual who we surmise is not what he seems at all but perhaps of the race of Hy-Brasyl which would explain his longevity and his mastery and ease of manipulation of the elements. The second session served as a bridge from modern Temurian wizardry... Jaalyn Sarag and the true roots of wizardry, Hy-Brasyl. Now for the third installment. What we now know of as wizardry depends on the use of focusing ones will to bend the elements to their bidding, to achieve desired results. This requires great concentration, effort and force of will, but true mastery of the elements is not bending them to your will, nor shaping them to your needs. True mastery has not existed, save with Logan, since the days of Hy-Brasyl. The race of Hy-Brasyl lived in harmony with the elements and were as friends to them.
They coexisted in a great symbiosis which neither needed to attempt to hold sway over
the other. Perhaps similar to druids, druids are strange indeed, but my knowledge is
focused on what I have discerned of the peoples of Hy-Brasyl. My thinking is that their "mastery" of the elements was not so much to do with
a superiority of intellect or of will than an Aisling possesses, but a superiority of
spirit. They knew no malice, no greed, no self serving desire. Therefore they were
at peace, and thus achieved a stillness of mind and spirit that enabled them to coexist closely with the hidden forces of the world and the universe. In an event only rivaled by the elemental wars, the balance of the elements was disturbed. Some of the wiser of the race left before the apocalypse took place,
but most stayed and when the elements were imbalanced and ill used, great catastrophies ensued. And as we know, Hy-Brasyl was swallowed beneath the waves. The
elements were chained and wizardry became a lost art until Jaalyn Sarag. ~Veneficus Adeptus |
