Thickness

Thickness- the heavier the pick the less flex.

Light picks are often used for rhythm & strumming

Medium gauge- provides some flex snap that works for you while playing lead also it will produce more volume & better projection when strumming.

Heavy Gauge - lead player preferred to increase their speed.

In any case it depends on the player preference on what picks they use.

Picks come in many different thickness. Each thickness is used to produce different sounds. The medium is the most commonly used thickness. Below is a chart to show actual thickness (these are examples).

Shapes

Guitar picks come in several shapes. The most common is the standard shape. This shape is the main pick used by guitar player. The elliptical is the next most common, this pick is used by bass guitar players. There is many other shapes, examples of these are triangular, teardrop, jazz, pointed shapes, hearts, shark fin, 6 sided or diamond and thumb pick. Each shape makes collecting picks exciting.

Large Triangle- Popular for county western rhythm, beginners & 12 string.

Standard - most popular - good for most playing

Jazz -Jazz musicians

Sharp- Metal players

Colors

Guitar picks come in many beautiful colors, so many that I could not possible list them all but below are some beautiful color examples. I wish I could include them all but limited space does make this to difficult.
