Father Hurley, the first principal and founder of Bishop O'Dowd High School, died this past February. To those there in the beginning, his name was synonymous with the school. He was in surgery for the repair of an aneurysm when he passed away. He was aware of the risks involved but was apparently in great spirits beforehand with his family around him. Six from the class of 1956 were able to attend the funeral Mass which was concelebrated by his brother, Frank, the Archbishop of Alaska and Cardinal Mohoney of Los Angeles and which was held at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. We will miss his presence at our reunions. He truly loved O'Dowd and was especially fond of those in the first classes.
