Palestinian prime minister threatens to quit unless Arafat yields more power to Cabinet
The Palestinian prime minister told Yasser Arafat on Tuesday he's determined to quit unless the Palestinian leader yields more power to the Cabinet, leaving the government embroiled in crisis.

The confrontation between the Palestinian leader and Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia centers on whether Arafat is willing to cede any of his absolute authority. Israel considers Arafat's stranglehold on Palestinian affairs as an obstacle to Mideast peace.

the joke about the World Is Knocking on Israel's Door
When The Hague speaks, the world listens, especially when a threat to international peace is involved. At least this was the case until the International Court of Justice took aim at Israel. At issue was the Israeli government's building of a separation wall on occupied Palestinian lands in the West Bank, which, in essence, has caged Palestinian communities into ghettos reminiscent of the Jewish ghettos in Europe during World War II. The now infamous separation wall is center stage of an international campaign aimed to end the illegal Israeli military occupation of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem - all areas occupied by force in 1967 when Israel's military assumed control, the same way the US entered Iraq and assumed control of everyday life there.

Hashem Aghajari, a professor at Tehran's Teachers Training University, had his death sentence overturned twice before the charges were reduced in a third trial earlier this month.

Iran rejects Canadian observers for Kazemi trial
Iran rejected on Wednesday a request by Canada to allow its observers to attend the trial of an Iranian intelligence agent charged with the "semi-intentional murder" of a Canadian journalist.

The death a year ago of Zahra Kazemi, 54, a Canadian photographer of Iranian descent, after she was arrested for taking pictures outside Tehran's Evin prison has soured ties between Iran and Canada.
