The ten years that Vivian spent in showbiz has been a roller-coaster ride of ups and downs. This period of time has seen Vivian mature from an innocent and cute sweetie-pie to a beautiful and worldly-wise lady.

Her pretty looks worked against her at first. Many critics doubted that behind that angelic face lay a talented individual who could sing and act. Vivian sought to prove them wrong. With more than 20 albums and almost 40 movies and TV serials to her name, Vivian worked very hard to prove herself during those years in showbiz.

However, much to her dismay, as her singing and acting career soared, her private life also became of greater interst to the mass media and public. Vicious rumours targeted at her were rife, but she learned to harden herself against the bad press and unwanted harassment.

In fact, Vivian got so tired of the paparazzi squad hounding at her heels that in late 1996 she imposed a press blackout ban on herself and refused to give interviews. Alas, her 'disappearance' served only to stoke the fire of the public's curiosity, giving rise to more media speculation on her private life, including her recent reunion with alleged former lover Joe Ngai.
