A True Non-Combustion Chamber Lube.

A while back I had a conversation with my friend Bill Beissert by e mail and he was informing me about a product/lube that he was using that didn't combust in his magnum springers (spring piston air gun), this product was Mobil Almo 525 Air Tool Oil.  Very generously he sent me a quart of the product for testing (Thanks Bill).   Once I tried the product, I found that it did combust in springers, his results were different from my testing results, after a few more e-mails he informed me that he had lubed the chamber of his springers with extra fine graphite before lubing them with Almo 525, these two products had mixed in the chamber.  After a little thought, I figured this must have been the reason that my test results were different from his results and my generous friend Bill sent me some extra fine graphite to continue my testing (Thanks again Bill).

I mixed 70% of Mobil Almo 525 Air Tool Oil with 30% of extra fine graphite powder, by slowing mixing the Almo 525 little by little into the fine graphite powder.  I took and I cleaned the chambers, piston seals, pistons with a degreaser until they were free of all lube of 2 magnum models I had on hand that had synthetic piston seals, a XS B-18, .22 cal. and a XS B-21, .177 cal..    I also tested this mixture/lube on a springer with a leather piston seal, at XS B-4-2A, .22 cal. and a Industry B-3-2 that has a synthetic piston seal.  On each model I injected 3 drops of the mixture down the chamber thru the breech seal's hole using a old computer printer's ink jet injector. 

 Recommended lubing for spring piston air guns with synthetic piston seals, lube with 2 drops of the mixture every 1000 shots, recommended lubing for springers with leather piston seals, 3 drops every 600 shots.  

Results:  

On all the models I tested there was no combustion or smoke of any sort, fps were in the right fps range for each model, the fps (feet per second) were much better than using a springer with out lube or with moly paste only on the piston seal, about 100 fps more than the speeds posted by air gunners that don't use lube in the chamber and the shots/fps had good consistency.   

It seems the extra fine graphite powder dampens combustion completely in the chamber, this is why my first results were different from Bill's results.  Mobil Almo 525 Air Tool Oil alone combusts, but mixed with extra fine graphite it does not. 

One of the problems I have come across repairing air guns over the years on springers that the owners don't lube the chamber of their springer has been rust inside the chamber walls, this causes lost of fps/lost of power and wear on the piston's seal.

   This lube will be beneficial to the power plant of springers who's  owners don't want to use lube in the pressure chamber of their springers for fear of damaging their springer due to combustion or to keep consistency/fps in shots.  This lube is a good option, this lube will give you protection needed against rust in the chamber and reduce wear on the piston seal since friction is reduced, plus increased fps with out losing consistency in fps.
