Fishing Calendar - Southcentral Alaska

This calendar covers some of the most popular sport fishing spots in Alaska.  The weeks when the most fish are present at each location are listed for Alaska's five species of salmon, along with rainbow trout, dolly varden, grayling and halibut.  All fishing spots shown can be reached by car.  The first locations listed are nearest to Anchorage.  The list covers as far north in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley as Talkeetna, and as far south as Homer at the southern tip of the Kenai Peninsula.  Whether you're planning a vacation to southcentral Alaska, or you live here, the calendar below can help get you to the right spot when the fish are in.

The Best Weeks are marked "o" below:

This fishing calendar lists the weeks when fish will normally be available in the largest numbers.  The emphasis here has been on: (1) salmon fishing spots with the most fish, and (2) places you can drive to from Anchorage and fish without a boat.  Alaska holds virtually unlimited fishing opportunities.  Countless fishing areas exist, but many are only reachable by airplane or boat.  Even within the area covered here, there are other types of fish available, and many other fishing locations.  Rainbow trout are available in many more locations than listed here, and many Anchorage area lakes are stocked with trout several times each summer.  The bottom-feeding saltwater Halibut is best caught by boat.  All of the fishing spots and times listed above are rated as "excellent" based on results.  Fish are available at other times, but the periods list above are historically the best.
