Happy New Year!

books

2003 was a good year for our family, and 2004 is starting off fine so far, as well. We spent the end of December with our friends, the Millers, in the Poconos. And then, for the first week and a half of January, I took the kids to my Mom and Dad's while Joe taught his intensive Winter Session statistics class. The trip started off very mildly, with weather in the 50s. We went out ice skating with Uncle Chris and Aunt Kristin. And, Matthew tried to teach Grandma and Grandpa the names of all his engines.

But, then the winds shifted. A series of "Alberta Clippers" swept down from Canada, drastically dropping the temperature and piling us deep in Lake Effect snow. We got over two feet of snow in two days. (Naturally, Dad's snowblower died!) The kids loved all the snow and wanted to play in it constantly. I let them out as much as I safely could (wind chills were steadily in the negative teens!). They tromped around, sledded, made snow angels and threw the fluffy snow around at each other ... generally having a total blast.

Still, it's good to be home now, and we're all ready to get back into a regular routine.

Goofin' Around

Matthew peeks through the railing at the Mountain House.

Night Sledding

The kids whiz down the icy-snowy driveway on the first night of wintry weather (little did we all know what was soon to come!).

Very Puzzling

Of course, with all that snow and no working snowblower, we have to find a lot to do indoors.

Snow Fun

Emily loved seeing all her tracks in the snowy yard.

It's Cold!

Matthew took a giant mouthful of snow (don't all kids do this?) and then exclaimed "Mommy ... it's too cold!!!"

Wait, Emily!

Emily was quite a bit faster at wallowing through the fluffy drifts.

Rosy Cheeks

Nothing gets the complexion glowing like fresh air and snowflakes.

Snouwbound

Despite it's light fluffy texture, this snow stuck to everything ... bringing down trees and power lines, and drifting over windows.

Picture Perfect

All the scenery was thickly frosted in white.
