(6/27/01, 3 p.m. ET) – Los Angeles Lakers center Shaquille O' Neal  isn't the only baketball star that's gone into rapping off the court. Philadelphia 76er and NBA MVP Allen "The Answer" Iverson's highly anticipated debut rap album, Misunderstood, might not be released until late this year or early next year, according to sources. The album was initially scheduled for release in February and then pushed back until after the basketball season. However, the album's release is now on hold as Iverson, who records under the name Jewelz, has reportedly returned to the studio to record more tracks. Iverson's label Universal Records could not provide a release date since one has not yet been set.

Iverson's first single, "40 Bars," was released in October and caused a huge backlash because it included violent references and derogatory terms about gays, women, and blacks. Iverson met with NBA commissioner David Stern last fall and agreed to eliminate the antisocial references. Following the meeting, Iverson said, "I can assure you that there won't be any gay-bashing or any women-bashing in the album." Iverson later said that he wasn't changing any of his lyrics, so fans will get the final "answer" when Misunderstood is released.
