TSUKINO USAGI (SAILORMOON)

Are you sure you need to know the background story to this show? I mean, it's so bloody popular, people are beginning to think of Sailormoon everytime anime is mentioned. ^_^;

Well, anyway, the basic story goes something like this. Usagi's a normal 14-year-old (I think 14's a magic number or something) schoolgirl whose only concern is not flunking every subject she's taking and swooning at every cute guy that passes by her. Then she meets this cat Luna who sorta gives her some magic power and she becomes Sailormoon, whose job is to punish (really cool) bad guys in the name of the moon. She's joined by her "inner senshi" - in order of appearance: Ami, Rei, Makoto and Minako, and together, they join forces to fight whatever happens to be the monster of the week.

Usagi's something of a klutz and a ditz. That's okay, I guess, since that seems to be a job requirement for adolescent anime heroines everywhere. When I first watched SM, I actually liked her a lot. I mean, she is funny, and kind, and endearingly clumsy. Then she goes and falls in love with that geek Mamoru - oops, sorry, I have nothing against Mamoru, it's Tuxedo Kamen that I have a problem with, so let me rephrase - that geek Tuxedo, who gets brainwashed so often his gray matters must be squeaky clean and who really needs a hero's speech scriptwriter.

So, because of that, I had to regretfully remove Usagi from my list of favorite anime females. But maybe if she ditches Cape Boy...
