Fan
Site Policy
We're flattered by the number of web sites on
the net created by fans of Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda.
Your enthusiasm and dedication to the show is inspiring. We by no
means want to inhibit your creativity. In fact, we want to showcase
your talent in our Fan Site List.
But to do that, we need to make sure that everyone gets credit where
credit is due. Copyright is all about giving people the credit
they deserve for their good ideas.
If you want to put up a fan website, or
already have, here's what you need to do:
If you sell
ads on your web site or it requires a subscription to see it
that's not just a fan site and you need special permission
so contact us.
1) If you use graphics from
the official site (that includes backgrounds, logos, photographs
and still images from episodes) be careful not to use them so
extensively that the majority of the work on your site comes from
the official site. Bring your own creativity to your web site.
If you love our look (and we hope you do), make a prominent link
to the official sites. If you use any of our graphics (or modified
versions of them), you need to include a linked note on every
page where you use the graphics that says:
"Graphics (or the background for this
page, or the photos on this page, etc.) are from the
Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda official site (that
should be a link to http://andromedatv.com) and are copyright
2001, Tribune Entertainment Co."
2) When it comes to the text
from our site, we want to encourage you to bring your own
ideas, words and creativity into your web site and just use quotes
from ours. If you do use text from our site, you also need a linked
copyright statement on the same page as the text that says:
"This text (or the text in blue, or the
text that follows) is from the Gene
Roddenberry's Andromeda official site (link to http://andromedatv.com)
and is copyright 2001, Tribune Entertainment Co."
3) As you can tell from 1
and 2, we do want you to link to our sites (and you'll need to
if you use our stuff), but you have to be careful with that, too.
Links to our sites should not look like they are part of your
portfolio, different sections of your site, or other fan sites.
We have direct access to the executive producers and actors for
the show, and readers need to know that. If you link to the following
URLs (and please do!), identify them with the titles listed here:
http://andromedatv.com
The Official Gene Roddenberry's
Andromeda Web Site
(There are a few variations
of this URL that work, but this is the standard.)
http://www.allsystems.org
The Official All Systems
University Web site
http://www.andromedaascendant.com
The Official Andromeda
Ascendant Web Site
4) Send us a note at
feedback@andromedatv.com telling us a little about your fan
web site. We'll check the web site to see if you're using the
graphics or text correctly. If you are -- and you want all the
extra traffic it will bring -- we'll link to your page from the
Official web site. (Allow up to two weeks for us to review your
site.)
5) And finally, with all
of this copyright information on your site, don't forget your
own copyright on your original work. It should look something
like this:
Text copyright 2001, John Doe. All rights
reserved.
or
Text © 2001, John Doe. All rights reserved.
or
Graphics copyright 2001, John Doe. All rights reserved.
(You get the idea)
For more information, there are some good
copyright resources on the Internet and in libraries. One good
source is "The Copyright
WebSite."
We care enough about Andromeda to defend
it and the copyright of the people who worked so hard to make
it what it is. So if you're not using our graphics or text correctly,
we'll notify you of where the problems are. If you don't want to
work with us on the problems, we'll take the necessary actions to
protect our hard work.
If you do follow the guidelines about fan sites,
we'll add your URL to the list on our site and we'll be as careful
about copyright issues as we're asking you to be. When users follow
the link from our site to your web space, they'll know your work
was done by a truly dedicated, creative fan who cares about Andromeda.
Promise. Now.... go be creative.
