In the years following the defeat of the Neo Zeon, the AEUG is disbanded. Many of its members, notably eternal captain Bright Noa and ace pilot Amuro Ray, sign up with the Federal Forces and become the core of a special task force called "Londo Bell." In UC 0093, the brief peace is shattered by the reappearance of Char Aznable. Son of spacenoid martyr Zeon Deikun, most famous Zeon ace of the One Year War, and charismatic spokesman of the AEUG, Char is loved by the spacenoids and feared by the Earth Federation. Forming his own Neo Zeon movement, Char plans to cripple the corrupt Federation and liberate the spacenoids by bombarding Earth with asteroids. |
Review:
This movie was good. Note my words - good, not great. The animation was very well done and I think that's probably the thing that I found most impressive about it. If I could say that I found all other aspects of this movie were equally impressive, then it would be amazing. Unfortunately, I can't say that all other aspects were equally impressive. The music I took little notice of - it was not bad, not amazing. The story was all in all not very compelling. I imagine I could have grasped this movie a lot better if I had seen the original Gundam series as well as Z Gundam and ZZ Gundam, as there were numerous references to those time periods. I did catch some of the references from my limited knowledge of those series, but as it goes the movie is uninspiring as a stand alone. If you have seen the original Mobile Suit Gundam, Z Gundam, and ZZ Gundam and loved them all, I imagine that you will love this movie also... otherwise, you'll find it lacking in many areas. As I mentioned, the animation is very good, that includes the characters, mobile suits, and battles. However, when the mediocre plot design and other disappointing elements are taken into account, the movie is less appealing and you will likely finish watching it not being completely fulfilled and perhaps even a little let down. |
