This is the story of Hitomi Kanzaki's unexpected journey to the other world of Gaea, a place where the Earth and the Moon hang in the sky.
She was unintentially brought there by Van Fanel, the young king of a ravaged kingdom. Hitomi is thrown into the middle of Van's battle against a devastating enemy - an enemy that wants to unlock the secret of changing destiny, the secret of Atlantis - and an enemy that will destroy anyone that gets in their way - the Zaibach Empire! Hitomi and Van are joined by the knight Allen Schezar, the Princess Millerna, and Van's devoted compainion Merle. Van and the others struggle with Zaibach and keeping Escaflowne - the robot-like "gaemelth" that Van controls - out of it's hands. All the time, they also struggle with their own personal demons and confusing emotions... and also the problem of getting Hitomi home to Earth remains... |
Review:
Escaflowne is the greatest television anime ever to hit North American airwaves. The plot is convoluted but wonderful and unique - sometimes difficult to follow, but worth the trouble. The animation is incredible, especially the beautiful blend of science fiction and fantasy in the gaemelths. Everything about the animation and the story is to be loved. The television series, however, does not have noticeably unique music. Despite this, Escaflowne is a great anime that has drawn in countless people, and if you haven't checked it out yet, you must. |
