After leaving the Central Plains to live on a deserted island known as Snake Island, renowned martial master The Revered Duk Lung loses his control over the demons as he practises his art and as he dies, he instructs Gam Sai Wai, his adopted orphan to take a letter and return to the Central Lands to give to the leader of the Mong Shan Sect Lui Sei Leung, Gam Sai Wai holds back his sadness and leaves Snake Island. From the time that Gam Sai Wai arrives at the Central Lands, a great turning point in his life begins
As he arrives in the Central Plains, because of the ragged clothes he is wearing, Wai is mistaken for being a member of the Beggar's sect and he becomes dragged by the Beggars Sect into their battles with the Shaolin Monks. Sai Mun Muk Ye is instructed by Emperor Qian Long to break up the unity between the sects of the Martial World, so he sends out assassin Lai Shing Nam to go out and secretly cause rifts between the sects and create the basis of trouble; also, a quest for some great martial arts skills and gain both fame and fortune, Kong Nam arrives at Shaolin; simultaneously, Jan Ying Courier's precious daughter Lee Sum Mui also arrives on the scene to join in the fun. Just as the two sects are beginning to battle, the naïve Wai shows off his skills and catches the attention of Lui Sei Leung's student Kuk Chi Wah who has been sent from Mong Shan to be a mediator in the fight, also it causes Kong Nam to vow that he must follow Wai and learn his fighting skills, Mui also sees him as her knight in shining armour, only Nam becomes his greatest enemy as she angers at his disruption to her plans.
The innocent Wai knows not of any taboos between men and women, as he causes much embarrassment to Wah, she also gets to know him better and without knowing it, the two gradually develop feelings for each other
On the other hand, Nam is dedicated to seeking revenge against Wai, so she plots to get friendly with him and she mixes him up with truths and lies to confuse situations and tricks him into fighting against the good forces, causing great trouble for Wai without him realising, however Nam becomes captivated by Wai's pure and lovable nature and his bold and trusting heart and she finds herself creating a strange attraction towards him
Wah finally brings Wai to Mong Shan to see Lui Sei Leung, it turns out that Duk Lung's letter is one of explanation to his old friend Sei Leung that in their attempt to assassinate the Emperor Yong Zheng, he did not betray his friend for wealth, and also to ask that Sei Leung uses Mong Shan Martial Art's pure and positive internal energy to help force out the demonic energy which is poisoning Wai. However, this incident causes the passing of Sei Leung, and the trouble which ensues causes the Acting Leader and all the disciples of Mong Shan to believe that it was Wai who killed their master, Wah and Wai cannot explain themselves and very disappointed, they leave. Wai continually comforts her and their feelings grow greatly as they decide to roam the lands together
When Nam finds out that Wai is in love with Wah and cannot bear that there are three parties in this relationship, so along the way, she continually harasses and causes problems for Wah.
Wai and the others arrive at Volcano Island to try and find a Martial Arts Manual and on the way, Nam's jealousy often causes arguments with Wah, stuck between the two women, Wai is very frustrated
Meanwhile, an avid seeker of Martial Arts Manuals, Meng Shen Tung and his band have followed them to the island and as they alight the boat, they immediately seek the whereabouts of Wai and his companions. Wai is suspicious at Nam's detailed knowledge of the island and on one occasion, she successfully drives away Wah, when suddenly Wai is ambushed by a strange man, not only is the attacker a skilled martial artist, what is more surprising is that he uses Sau Lor Yam Sat Gung and that Nam kneels to him abruptly and calls him "Uncle", Wai realises that the reason she knows the island so well is that she has a map which has been passed on by her family. On the other hand, Wah meets with Meng on the island and with her inferior fighting skills, she is captured, Wai loses control of his spirit in an attempt to rescue the two girls and allows Meng to snatch half of the manual and take away Wah, escaping in his boat.
When Wai and Nam arrive back in the Central Plains, they find out that the Martial World has met with a great crisis, as Meng has completed his demonic martial arts and started his evil scheme to take over the whole of the Martial world by challenging each of the great sects and clans to a great fight at Mong Shan, Wah realises that Meng will not give up his slaughter for her, so she can only hope that she can escape from the Meng Family Mansion. The warriors of the good sects are no match for Meng, but Wai and Nam appear to save them from their fate, they are all surprised to see that Wai is still alive, but although Wai and Nam work together to fight back Meng, Sai Mun Muk Ye suddenly arrives with nearly twenty yellow-robed masters from Tibet to fight against the Martial World, this act knocks all the sects and clans into dispersed sands with many killed and injured, whilst all the leaders are captured, in the end only Wai and Nam are lucky to escape just in time with their lives.
In fact, Muk Ye and Meng had earlier agreed to use Meng's power to defeat the sects, but Meng's arrogance caused him to want the credit from Qian Long for this to himself and requests that the Emperor makes him the Chief Advisor of the Court, Muk Ye is not impressed at this insubordination and the the two fall out and a battle develops between their troops, with Wai and Nam hidden amongst the army, waiting for their chance to rescue the sect leaders and fight the final battle to the death with Muk Ye and Meng.
