Class President Job Description

Term: 5 years — elected by the class at the class meeting

Alumnae Association Contact: Director of Alumnae Outreach

The class president provides leadership to class officers and class members. The president communicates annually with officers to ensure that they are meeting their responsibilities. The president also oversees the schedule of class events and is empowered to appoint assistants for any and all projects.

Qualifications:

Must have enthusiasm for Smith, a strong interest in her class, and a desire to increase participation of class members in both class and Association events;
Must enjoy working in a team with other class officers;
Willingness to represent the College and respond to questions and problems of classmates;
Must make an annual gift to the Alumnae Fund.

Responsibilities:

Arrange an annual communication with class officers, either at a mutually convenient location or by conference call;
Send out at least one newsletter per year to classmates, which should include a report from the Alumnae Association and a report from the Executive Committee meeting;
Preside at the class meeting, held during the class reunion that marks the end of her term;
Attend Class Officer workshops and conferences with other class officers, in the fall;
Attend reunion;
In case of a resignation or vacancy among class officers, the president, in consultation with the class Executive Committee, I empowered to appoint someone to fill the unexpired term. If the class officer cannot or does not fulfill her responsibilities it is the responsibility of the president, in cooperation with the Alumnae Association, to determine a course of action, including resignation and replacement;
The president is responsible for staying in touch with the reunion chair during the planning and scheduling of reunion events;
The president is responsible for keeping records of important class literature, communications with class officers and class members, and correspondence of note involving the Alumnae Association. These files must be passed on to the succeeding president.
The president makes the following appointments: Reunion Co-Chair; Nominating Committee Chair and Planned Giving Chair
