Aftran:
A fic by Goobie

After feeding, I returned to my scoop. It was folded down in case any humans happened to walk near it, which very rarely happened. The woods were located behind Cassie's farm, which is farther from human establishments than other places of recreation.

I unfolded my scoop and walked inside. It is smaller than a standard scoop, but it is more than sufficiently equipped for me. There has more than accomdating space for my books, my television, and my human "clothes," which are a type of artificial skin.

However, my space has become more cramped as of late. I have been given a roommate. Beside my chest of human clothes, was hers. And on the left wall of the scoop hung a painting she had requested. It was painted by a human named Van Gough. It has very bright colors in a very unique design. I
don't like to admit it, but I enjoy looking at it.

And there, adjacent to the wall which was the opposite wall which held the painting, was a small table. And on the table was what the humans call an aquarium. It is a habitat to support aquatic lifeforms for human amusement.

Very hard to understand. But this particular aquarium was altered by Erek, the Chee. It now holds a Yeerk, the Animorph, Aftran.

It has been a week since Prince Jake said to make Aftran an Animorph. I don't know what I will tell my Andalite prince when the Andalites come to Earth. They will not look kindly on this. They were greatly angered at my brother, a prince, for giving the morphing powered to humans, but me, an aristh, giving it to my sworn enemy, a Yeerk?

After three days away from the Yeerk pool, Erek, the Chee, had provided Aftran with Kandrona rays. After that, he constructed a sort of mini-Kandrona ray attached to an aquarium, since Yeerks require water to live as well. Now, that is where Aftran lives.

I looked at her in through the glass. Yes, I know, Yeerks are not male or female, but when Aftran created a human morph through the Frolis manuever I taught her, she choose to be female, which is how everyone now thinks of her. Plus the fact that when we met her, she had her clutches around the
brain of the helpless human girl, Karen. Anyways, the Yeerk swan to the top of her home and extended a tentacle to touch a recepticle on the aquarium to access the controls.

"Ax," her human voice said through the audio synthesizer, "Are you there?" I hesitated, then answered.

<Yes,> I said, then with curiosity added, <How did you know?>

"I have a type of built in sonar." Aftran said. There was silence for a
long time after that. "Why do you hate me, Ax?" Aftran asked.

I was shocked by this question. <I do not hate you, but your people are my sworn enemy.> I said, then added, <They killed my brother.>

"But I helped save your life," Aftran said.

That comment took me by surprise. When my Tria gland was about to burst, Aftran helped Cassie locate it. I know Cassie is skilled in animal care, and by animal I mean non-human animals, I do not believe she could have successfuly removed my Tria gland on her own, even with vile Yeerk help. I
have come to the conclusion that the Ellimist must have used his supreme influence to help someway.

I didn't respond to Aftran's comment. I then watched as Aftran activated the hatch on her tank. She crawled out and onto the table. I watched as she began her human morph, which is her only morph at this time. I didn't like to watch my people's technology being used by the enemy. <What are you doing?> I asked her. It took awhile for her to respond, she wasn't able to speak yet. Her mouth hadn't morphed yet. When it did, she responded.

"I want to watch T.V," Aftran said as fingers and toes grew from her half morphed body, "My favorite show is coming on: WWF Livewire." When Aftran was done, she walked over and turned on the T.V. There was a human there talking about "raw war" and heat. I didn't understand any of it. "Sorry," Aftran said as she sat on a felt sack of Marco's filled with small plastic beads. I believed he called it a bean bag. "Karen got me hooked on this stuff."

I couldn't stand it any longer. There was a Yeerk in my scoop, watching my T.V, and using my people's technology. I needed to get out of there. I ran off wothout a word. I heard Aftran's distant voice calling to me. I didn't care. I ran blindly in the morning light. Even with my genetic abilities of direction, I wasn't sure where I was, and that's exactly how the problem started.

-End-

Cool, huh? Kind of foreboding, too . . .
