The Underground

Plot:

On a non-official excursion, Rachel saves the life of a man attempting suicide. They say that he is derranged, even incompetent. He acts crazy, and in his lucid periods, claims to be infested by aliens in his head. Investigating him, Rachel finds that he is a Controller under the influence of . . .   oatmeal. The maple-and-ginger flavor. Instant. They become addicted to it and eventually loose control of their hosts, leaving them free. There are some drawbacks, but they decide that it would make the perfect additive to the Yeerk pool. The only problem is they have to make another trip to the underground, one from which they may not emerge.

Comments:
I like this book, not only because it's good as Rachel-books go (which I have a partiality for) but also because it has some very interesting thoughts, like the choosing between two evils: which is worse, the slavery of being a Controller or occasional freedom yet loss of hope of ever escaping and living a normal life? And an excellent quote: "Even I know that 'We have to win' are the first four steps on the road to Hell."
