bk3.gif (39479 bytes) Animorphs #3:
The Encounter

Plot:

When they first received their morphing ability, the Animorphs were told that it also had limits. One of those was the two-hour limit: once one stays in a morph for more than two hours, they are trapped in it permanently. Such has been the case with Tobias. He is now a paradox: a human boy trapped in the body of a red-tailed hawk. Now he has to stop a Yeerk operation, namely a "truck ship," as well as deal with his own identity.

Comments:
They just keep getting better and better. This was the book that got me hooked on Animorphs. It's neat to see how Tobias, who can't even morph now, could still help defeat the enemy, and there's a lot of psychological tension resulting from a major identity crisis: What makes a person human anyway? If one is a hawk who thinks like a human, what is that person?
