Animorphs #4:
The Message
Plot:
It all started with the dreams. But Cassie didn't pay much attention to them. She and her
friends had all been having weird dreams ever since they'd first learned to morph. Maybe
it was just some crazy side effect. Then Cassie discovered that she and Tobias had been
having the exact same dreams. Dreams about the ocean. And a strange feeling that someone
is calling to them. Calling for help. Cassie, Tobias, Jake, Rachel, and Marco have to
figure out if the dreams are a message -- or a trap. And if it is a trap, it could mean
the end -- for everyone...

Main Plot Points:
- The Animorphs have to brave the ocean to try to rescue an
Andalite survivor
- Ax joins the Animorphs
Morphs:
- Dolphin
- "Phillip" (Ax morphing all the human Animorphs)
Notes and Observations:
- It's interesting that Cassie picked up on Ax's psychic message
even though there's no logical reason why she should if the other human Animorphs didn't.
And of course her "liking animals so much, and being the best morpher" isn't a
logical reason, but it's probably tied to the same reason she has the talents of an estreen.
- Someone commented that it was strange that Ax was under the
ocean for a range of a week to a month before he decided to call for help. But you have to
remember that (despite what you may see in the AniTV show) Andalite's telepathic means of
communication doesn't mean they have psychic powers. Apparently Ax had to construct a
complicated machine to project his thought-waves into the subconscious of anyone in a wide
range who could morph. Of course, this would take him a little while. He doesn't mention
this but since he refrains from talking about it because of Andalite law, we can safely
assume that he is being obedient to Seerow's Kindness and not giving humans -- or
possibly Controllers -- ideas for technology.
Comments:
Very, very good book. I think this book, even among all the other personality-driven,
thought-provoking books, defines Cassie. It is a basic look into her personality: how she
lives, how she thinks, how she fights. Also, the everyone-either-loves-him-or-hates-him
Aximilli makes his debut. One of the gotta-reads.
