Overall Grade: A- (92%) Very Good, violence and a little bit of nudity

Heather's Akira Review

Akira was an incredible film. I thought that it was very well planned out, had good character development, and excellent animation. The storyline is really long and complicated to explain, so I'll just keep it really brief.

World War III occurred awhile back. 31 years later, everything is still in chaos, working on rebuilding, etc. There are a lot of criminals just sitting around, and our two main characters happen to be members of a criminal biker group. They run around and get drunk and screw chicks, basically. Anyway, one night, Tetsuyo is on the run from the cops on his bike. He almost hits a small child, and swerves to avoid him. When Tetsuyo wakes up from the crash, the kid is staring at him, and he has the face of an old man. Well, after that, Tetsuyo passes out, and the government comes after him and takes him away. No one knows why he was taken or what they are doing to him.

The things to watch out for in this movie are the violence, sexual theme (not much though), brief nudity, and the occasional BAD WORD!!

Heather's ratings

Storyline

5/5 It was quite unique.

Character Development

5/5 Very goo (goo=good)

Plot Depth

5/5 Very deep, and sometimes quite confusing.

Music

5/5 Um... well it fit very well... but most of it was odd ramdom mumblings, screamings, and drumbeats.

Sexual Content

4/5 Cowrie gets her shirt ripped off by the clowns and WOW... then you can see her boobs! In nice detail, too! Never saw that one coming... it hit me like a sack o' potatoes!

Nudity

4/5 Well, if you read above, then you'd know... HEHE... yeah, there was one scene, girl shirtless, and detailed.

Violence/Gore

2/5 Lots and lots of extremely detailed and shiny blood, among other body parts falling out. And also dismemberments! Yay...

Animation

5/5 It was really good for a 1989 film!

Profanity

3/5 They swear and there are very bad bad words written on walls as graffiti.

Overall goodness

5/5 I loved it! It was unique and good, but quite confusing at times.. although it all makes perfect sense when someone is sitting next to you saying, "THIS NEVER HAPPENED IN THE MANGA! OH, BUT THIS DID! (and proceeds to say WHAT happened... grrrr...)"

Totals: 43/50, very good!

Megan's Akira Review

Akira was a cool and LONG movie about this thing called-what else? AKIRA! It came a long time ago and did bad bad things. Now, there are some screwed up kids. They look like old people but they're kids. It's weird. And this guy, Tetsuyo, nearly runs one of those kids over on his bike and gets hauled away by the people who own those kids. His friend Kaneda wants to help him, hbut it's a little late now, cause Tetsuyo's nuts.

Kaneda meets up with this chick-Kay. Her brother and her are out to find out why these kids are why they are.

These are the kids- Kyoko, (the little chick), Fatty Fatty Two-by-Four (okay, that wasn't his name, but that's what WE called him. The kid in the bubble) and Little Whiney Kid (number 26) I forgot his name too. Oh well! Fatty Fatty Two-by-four's "dad" was the guy with the buck teeth, according to us. I think before I add something in I shouldn't, I'll move on to ratings.. ^_____^

Character Development

5/5 Uh.. Fatty Fatty Two by Four...?? Nah, it was pretty good, we saw.. THE PAST!

Plot Depth

5/5 Something like that, anyway

Music

5/5 Lots of psycho drumbeats and singing. (weird loud and obnoxious, mind you)

Nudity

3/5 Cowrie's naked chest, naked Tetsuyo, and.. *shifts eyes* a little boy...

Violence/Gore

1/5 This is the entire basis of the movie. Decapitations, squishings, bearmings, beleggings, you name a violent scene, WE'VE GOT IT FOR YOOOOUUU! (even shot to little pieces)

Animation

5/5 Incredibly good for the time it was made. ('89, I think) Could go by '95 standards.

Profanity

3/5 Aw, a "damn" here and there, stuff like that. BAD words are written on the wall.

Overall goodness

5/5 A little too long for my taste, but really good! I can see why it's a classic!

Totals: 41/50, Sure, it's lower, but that's cause it's so violent! Violence is fun!

Comments: Akira was a really good movie about many a scientific thing. Mostly it's recommended to the males, for there was a lot of blood and gore; most girls don't like that. Not only was there blood and gore; MANY COOL MECHS! He had a sweeeeeet motorcycle. Of course, despite our female-likeness, we liked it.
