Battle Angel (originally called GUNNM, or "Gun Dream") is a two-part OAV series released in one handy-dandy tape. Of course it was released by the ever-popular A.D.Vision, although this is one of their earlier works.... ANYWAY!
I'm not exactly sure when or where this takes place. All we see is this wonderful-happy super fun-fun SD (ok, I've been hanging around Hiroshi and Negishi too much...) place called Scrap-Iron City. Alright, its anything BUT wonderful-happy... yadda yadda yadda. There are many cyborgs running amok, (gehen amok laufen anderswo!) and crooks are at large. They are stealing parts from the humans, although mostly spines and brains. For some odd reason, they really want to kill off all of these bounty hunters and yet at the same time.... I dunno. It's kind of odd... but if I tell you all of the details it would kind of spoil the storyline.
There's a girl called Gally who is rescued by Mr. Ido. Mr. Ido makes her a body, because all he finds is her head. Yeah, that was really attractive! Grrr... I can't say anything else without spoiling. Let's just say the plotline gets going fast, the characters become attached permanently in your mind, the music rocks, the animation is superb, and lots of other goo (goo=good) crap.
There is a lot of blood and gore in this movie. There is also plenty of bad swearing (the bad kind would include the "f" word, and in this case, it was used twice) and detailed nudity. There is implied sex scenes and yadda yadda yadda.
Storyline
5/5 It was good, I like the sci-fi stuff. I am a science-fiction freak!
Character Development
5/5 It was very good. I liked all of the characters I was supposed to like and I hated all of the characters that I was supposed to HATE! GROO!
Plot Depth
5/5 Nice and deep. It was surprisingly more of a love story than anything else. And that was the last thing I was expecting!
Music
5/5 Wonderful! And goo! It was all freakish and tribal-like... I don't really know how to explain it. It kind of resembled music in the films like Ghost in the Shell and 3 x 3 eyes.
Sexual Content
4/5 There were a few scenes with the woman Chirin. She was naked a lot and she also did the nasty with a really ugly guy. Or two.
Nudity
3/5 Nice and detail-ee nudity that was totally unnecessary.
Violence/Gore
2/5 Yeah. There's a lot. Bloody as usual. Decapitations, de-limbings, the whole works.
Animation
5/5 It was very good for 1993.
Profanity
4/5 Swear words that were bad. Such as "TRUCK YOU!" with an "F" substituted in for the "TR". You probably think I am a retard and am too chicken to swear. I just don't want to lose another website.... grr...
Overall goodness
5/5 It was a well-thought out and good story.
Totals: 43/50, or good. I liked it. What a surprise.
This is a VERY VERY good movie. I am still really sad over the whole thing. (Don't tell me you thought that was a spoiler. Did you expect this to be happy happy SAYLAA MOO? Sailor Moon, I mean..) And the ending song, "Cyborg Mermaid", was really cool and I loved the lyrics. Was coo.
Gally is found in a dump. Wow, what a great way to begin your new life. Ido, the top-quality cyber-doctor, repairs her and gives her LIIIFFFEE! Gally is pretty humanly. There's this mechanic kid, Yugo, who is trying to fix the windmill. Gally and him become friends.
Meanwhile, Ido is not having such luck. A woman he used to work with, Chiren, is back and bugging him about Gally. He is NOT happy about that.
Yugo is obsessed with the idea of going to Zalem. They live in the Iron Scrap crap. Hee hee. Zalem is far away and all that wonderful crap. 'Tis heaven, they say. And I could not care any less about Zalem...
There is also (how convenient) a wave of crime. People steal spines and brains. Wow. So, what could happen? I shall leave this up to your wondery-ful imagination.

Battle Angel Alita is steered towards both genders with it's love story and it's awesome fighting scenes with blood, gore, and more mechs than you can shake a spine at. (eew...) Reccommended for and sci-fi fan, and more romantics should like the romance stuff.
