Heather's Battle Athletes Review

We are reviewing the Battle Athletes OAV series, not the "Battle Athletes-Victory" series.

We only own the first tape in this series, so the review will be based on this tape only, until further notice.

Akari Kanzaki, a girl living on planet Earth in the year 4999, is going into training with her friends, Tanya Natdhipytadd and Jessie Gurtland. They are going to try to become the "Cosmic Beauty". In order to do this, they must become athletic champions. And in order to do this, they must undergo serious training at a satellite in outer space.

Akari's mother was a former Cosmic Beauty, and Akari wants to become just like her. Unfortunately, there are thousands of other girls who want to do the same.

Akari meets a friend, Anna, who is being harrassed and beat up by a mean old ugly chic called Mylanda. Mylanda and Akari are enemies from the start, and I won't tell you how bad this really gets.

Akari also meets Kris Christopher, a girl from the moon who says weird chants and wanders around naked a lot. Kris has never read a romance novel or eaten a cookie before, and it is hilarious when she does.

4/5 Not that deep, but its pretty good.

Music

5/5 It is an all-girl school. ZIPPO

Nudity

4/5 Kris says her chants in the nude, but no detail at all.

Violence/Gore

4/5 Mylanda gets BE-OTCHY and slaps poor Anna. Oh yeah, and she tries to kill Akari.

Animation

5/5 Nicely done and mostly smooth.

Profanity

5/5 Swearing, maybe once, and some bad sex jokes.

Overall goodness

4/5 Pretty good, not all that clear on when this takes place (it says 4999 b.c. yet they are extremely technologically advanced, so....this means that the egyptians REALLY used the pyramids for space shuttle launches...hmm...)

Totals: 46/50, or very good!

Megan's Battle Athletes Review!

Battle Athletes was cool. Very cool. Was it worth 22.95? Yup. (not to mention I got this from Heather. Neato, huh?) Akari is kinda whiney, but she's brave and determined. Kris is awesome, can that girl take a punch! Anna is so cute and polite it's almost pathetic. Mylanda.... KILL!! KILL!! Oh, sorry. Jessie's prim and proper, but she's got high hopes. Tanya's the food-crazed, sleep-crazed maniac who runs around like a nut case.

So, all in all, we must try to become the Cosmic Beauty... whether or NOT we are female.. but we'll just ignore that factor... -_o... I SEE YOU!!!

Megan's ratings

Storyline

5/5 It was groo-dlee-GROO!! (good... o_o.. I haven't had any sleeeeeep)

Character Development

5/5 Akari's mommy.. boo-hoo.. I did cry, though

Plot Depth

4.5/5 Not all that deep, but issues like weird friends that embarrass you but kick butt at Battle Lacrosse.

Music

5/5 Cute ending song, all SD!

Sexual Content

5/5 So they mention the word 'sex'... whoopdy-groo.

Nudity

4.5/5 Kris the nudist. Only twice, once during her chant, once she comes out of the bathroom saying the bathroom's free now. Akari tells her to get clothes on it's embarrassing. Kris replies Anna and Akari are weirdos.

Violence/Gore

5/5 Only some cuts and scrapes. Akari could have been seriously hurt, but Anna and Kris saved her.

Animation

5/5 Pretty goooooodly goo.

Profanity

5/5 Oh, poo-poo head! No, YOU are the poo-poo head! It's over, man!

Overall goodness

5/5 It's good, but something is odd... but what?? -_o (I am spying on them to see)

Total: 49/50, or most excellent. The beginnings a little boring. Old war scenes.

TOTALS PUT TOGETHER: 48/50

Comments: Battle Athletes is about the people who want to compete for a sort of "Miss America" thing in space. It's open to girls, and they have to be in peak physical condition to become... the "Cosmic Beauty." This is for girls and guys. Girls will like the kick-butt girl power, and guys will like the scantily-clad chicks. So we recommend it to either gender, sports fan or no, just be sure to like a good 'ol comedy! (Remember, this is for the OAV series!)
