Overall Grade: A- (92%) Very Good, was violent and had NO nudity! A buttcrack, but oh well. Some swearing.

Heather's Black Magic M-66 Review

OK, the military is sending out these cool helicopters. They are transporting new weapons and goodies of the sort. The helicopters go out of control and crash somewhere in the woods. The helicopters are blown apart, throwing two cases containing "The Perfect Robots" away from the wreckage. They seem to be untouched, although somehow you get the feeling that there is more to them than meets the eye.

A reporter named Sybil and her "partner" (Leakey... that's his name... nice, huh?) are trying to make some money off of following the government around and documenting what they do. Of course, the military doesn't know that they are being followed. A lot of stuff happens that I cannot say because it will ruin the story.... and then after all of that occurs, she happens to overhear a frantic old man say that his granddaughter is going to be stalked by one of the two M-66 robots. So Sybil and Leakey take off (although Leakey chickens out) and go to his house. Sybil overhers Ferris' (that's the old man's granddaughter) voice on the answering machine and realizes that only she and the robot know where Ferris is. If she doesn't go help Ferris, then she will certainly die.

The rest of the story is what happens to Sybil, Leakey, Ferris, Ferris' grandfather, and the military, so I (again) cannot tell you what happens. There is some minimal swearing throughout the short (48 minutes) movie, and the scene where you first see Sybil she is naked. But there isn't any detail except for a buttcrack. Oh, and lots of blood throughout the show too.

Heather's ratings

Storyline

5/5 Pretty darn goo (goo=good) for such a short film.

Character Development

5/5 GOO ditto of above.

Plot Depth

5/5 And again, goo.

Music

5/5 Cheesy cheesy (But I LIKE 80's music!), and the horror-ific music was delightful. (Uh.. I scare me too.)

Sexual Content

5/5 None

Nudity

4/5 As I said before, the fisrt scene where you see Sybil she is nakee. And there's no detail that I can remember, just a buttcrack. She knows how to strategically place her towel so you can't see anything.

Violence/Gore

3/5 This was very violent. I kept it at a 3 because for the most part, it was just people getting kicked. But there was a TON of blood, so... I can't give it a 4 (I rate almost everything a 4 for violence, except for 3 x 3 eyes... hehehe)

Animation

5/5 It was pretty good, typical 1980's stuff.

Profanity

4/5 Yeah they swear.

Overall goodness

5/5 A very good short film. Watch it if you are a fan of Shirow or a mech fan in general.

Totals: 46/50, 'twas a good one, says I. (There I go wanting to be Faris again...) 'Tis Masamune Shirow, and I thought there would be more nakee women... but there WASN'T- YAY!

Megan's Black Magic M-66 Review

There was a plane crash, and two white pods were lost in it. They are marked only with M-66.

It starts out with a lovely shower scene. It's a Shirow. Don't expect no nudity!! Okay, so there was one. A reporer, named Sybil. She leaps outta the shower and gets all her equipment, including clothes. She got dressed and drove to get her partner, Leakey. (a loverly name. Leakey. He sounds like a toilet) They drove around trying to get a news story.

The military is very worried about the two white pods. There were killer androids in there. So, of course, they send out their men to watch for it, and get some killed along the way. Then they send for the man who built the robots, and he leaves his granddaughter, Ferris, alone. She says she's going out, but he doesn't hear her. When he reaches the scene, he finds out that the test program wasn't removed from the robots. But who's the test target? His granddaughter. These killer robots are after her!! TWO OF THEM!! The military goes and sets traps. They capture one, and it self-destructs. (I call it Heero Yuy Type 1) They don't get the other one. Sybil, the reporter, was captured during this chaos, and she sets out to get more footage. He partner heads back, terrified.

She reaches the professor's home, and goes in. Most of it has been demolished. But she hears Ferris's voice. Ferris left a message on the machine. She's at a resturant. Only Sybil and the android know where she is. Sybil decides she HAS to help Ferris. But what about the M-66 stil running loose?

Megan's ratings

Storyline

5/5 Really good, and really short! (a grand total OF... 48 minutes!!)

Character Development

5/5 Didn't need really any character development. But all the characters were unique and interesting.

Plot Depth

5/5 Yeah, yeah. Not nearly as confushing as Ghost in the Shell.

Music

5/5 Pretty good! Gotta love that 80's beat!

Sexual Content

5/5 Not any at all! I was so happy!

Nudity

4/5 The shower scene, and that was VERY minimal!

Violence/Gore

4/5 Robots, people, nice and gory! That's the way I like it!

Animation

4/5 Medium-good. It WAS made in 87, and I have seen better animation than that from the same time period!

Profanity

4/5 Aw, a little.

Overall goodness

5/5 It was good! I'd buy it! Of course, this is a Masamune Shirow! It's gotta be good!

Totals: 46/50, or good! I really liked it, and the androids were very intersting while they lasted!

TOTALS (both reviews coined together) 46/50. Goo. Very goo.

Comments: Black Magic M-66 is a release by Masamune Shirow, and it is good for both genders. It is more of an adult show, with the story and the machines, gore, etc. etc. Guys will like the gore and cool mechs, with girls more aimed toward the weaker love story and heriocs.
