Saber Marrionette R is basically the same thing as Saber Marrionette J with the names of characters and objects. The storyline is also quite similar, except that it wraps up within three episodes (Saber Marrionette J takes many, many episodes...)
The storyline goes as follows:
Starface is a master at making androids, or marrionettes. He builds unknown female marrionettes with "Girl Circuits" (in SMJ (Saber Marionette J) they were known as "Maiden Circuits"), which enable them to have a personality of their own and have something no other marionette has- emotions. So off he goes on a tangent making really cool marrionettes for his own evil purposes. Unfortunately, he is not a master of disguise as he is making things, and gets caught. The marrionette is left, unfinished, on the worktable. Mysteriously, after starface gets drug away, it wakes up and starts the revolution.
Junior is a normal boy, besides the fact that he lives in a world of cloned men and no women. The only women there are the marrionettes, obviously. He owns one that came to him a while back, named Cherry (also from SMJ- same personality, but different looks). Then another marrionette is found- Lime (SMJ again- same personality, different looks...). Cherry is jealous of Lime because she gets more attention from Junior. Whaddaya know? Both Cherry and Lime have Girl Circuits and can be jealous, happy, sad, and who knows what! It's almost like having two real girls around...
Anyway, Starface devises a plan to escape where he is imprisoned. He does this with the help of his "Sexadolls" (Which were known as the "Saber Dolls" in Saber Marrionette J), who are androids with the "Girl Circuit." Starface decides that he wants revenge on all! So off he goes, kidnaps his own father, and threatens to kill his brother... JUNIOR! (ah the plot thickens)
And from this point on, Junior, with help from Cherry and Lime, goes off to stop his brother from doing evil and to save his father. They fight many sexadolls on the way. Believe me, those dolls are named accurately...
During the journey, we also meet the infamous Bloodberry (who was also in SMJ, same personality.. kinda). She looks VERY different in this version of the story.
Some things to be on the lookout for- some nasty sex scenes that involve Starface and the Sexadolls. The sexadolls also make some comments to Junior that would make you think they are pediphiles ("You excite me, little boy...") Gross. And the boogees grab themselves (boogees is a coined term of Megan's and mine that we use to describe the women who feel themselves up WAY TOO MUCH... like CACAO!) a few times.
Storyline
4/5 It started off really good, but the story seemed rather choppy and unthouroughly thought out. It just seemed... hollow...
Character Delevopment
5/5 For a short series, it was pretty good.
Plot Depth
4/5 Not really all that deep, like SMJ.
Music
5/5 It was cute as usual, but since we saw it dubbed, no Megumi Hashiyabara (she is SUCH a good voice actress- she did Pai, Nuku Nuku, Lime, and others I can't remember right now...)
Sexual Content
4/5 The hot springs scene with the androids, and the attempted rip-off-little-boys-shirt-rape-scene thingy.
Nudity
4/5 Yes, the licking and the naked breasts was a little too much for me... I don't like that crap!
Violence/Gore
4/5 Things get blown up a lot. People die...
Animation
5/5 Quite good if I do say so myself.
Profanity
4/5 I think they might swear a couple of times and they say dirty comments to each other.
Overall goodness
4/5 It was okay, I might watch it again, but it wasn't the best I have ever seen.
Totals: 43/50, it was a one-timer thing. Just to say we have seen it. I highly recommend Saber Marionette J over this one anyday (SUBBED! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!).
Started out incredibly cool. Metal skeletons, Girl Circuits, (although, if I do say so myself, I like Maiden Circuit better) and synthetic blood. The Girl Circuit starts a pumpin' and the skeletons are ALIIIIVE!! (j-e-l-l-o.. it's jiggly!! And pretty "jewel tones" What this has to do with SMR, I don't know. It just came into my mind. Much like Baa ram ewe did)
It then opens with Lime (not our beloved blue haired Megumi Hashiyabara.. a brown haired cutie) fighting the Saber Champion. Junior and Cherry are in the stands, cheering her on. Lime wins the fight, and Cherry is jealous. (yet again, this isn't our beloved purple haired cook, this is a black haired control freak. She's a cute one, though!) Lime is doing things to Junior that even SHE hasn't done! And besides, Lime's the baby, and Cherry doesn't get as much attention any more. When they go for a walk, Cherry runs to get ice cream, and finds Lime and Junior together. They decide to go home before Cherry blows a fuse. When they arrive home, Junior's father has been abducted by Junior's brother, Starface. I don't like Starface's minions. They are boogees. (boob grabbing idiots. Cacao is one of these boogees.) Anyway, Bloodberry helps 'em out. (this, mind you, isn't our beloved red haired battle babe. This is someone else) They go to a home far away to get stronger to fight Starface.
From there, they get stronger, learn to control their emotions, etc. etc. Then we learn all the deep and meaningful crapload of stuff.
Storyline
4/5 Kinda went downhill.

5/5 Pretty good.
Plot Depth
4/5 Not really deep, but oh well.

5/5 Cutesy, like the characters

4/5 A few ripped up 'bots.
