Genealogy Workshop

Those who participated in our first genealogy workshop in Kentucky 1997, and in Chattanooga in 1998, appeared to enjoy sharing data with their cousins and the consensus is to continue having this as long as our cousins are interested. And yes, it will be held at the Clarion Hotel on FRIDAY morning (gathering at 9:00, but "late comers" are welcome), June 11th in the same hospitality room where we will begin registration about one o'clock.

Cousin Eleanor (and Don) Mayfarth of Auburn, CA, are going to be with us again in Arkansas this year and she will be leading the workshop again. Maybe workshop is a misnomer, as this may be more of a "sharing session." Many of us have found new information or have new questions from year to year and this will be a time to compare notes and hopefully answer some questions.

Cousin Eleanor has been deeply involved in a "Special Research Team" trying to solve some Umstead family mysteries. In doing so, she has accumulated information on such "Allied Families" as Cain, Ellis, Morris, Phillips, Miles, King, Hart, Howard, Kendall, Rhodes, Roberts, Shannon, Price, and other families who were in Pennsylvania very early.

Lots of these surnames were included in early Pennsylvania Baptist records. She will be doing more searches in Salt Lake City on these early Baptist Veazey - Hollingsworth connections. She may have some big surprises for us about these lines lots of us are researching as ancestors. Eleanor urges everyone to bring along all the info you have on the families with whom your Veazey family intermarried.

I, personally, have the opinion that by investigating some of these "orphans" or lost branches, we may find a connection to some of our other "mysteries" out there. I just received a message that there were a group of Umsteads in Beaver Co., PA. Isn't that where we have a mystery set of Veazeys descended from Elisha Veazey???

It has been said before that they traveled together and they intermarried for a thousand years! Both here and back across the big water.

Umstead - Pennypacker Reunion

By the same token if you have an Umstead ancestor or connection, you will be interested in the first (in many years) reunion that is planned for Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, on the weekend of July 2nd-4th. I have details or you may write to Jack Pennybacker, 295 Carondelet St., Mandeville, LA 70448; reunion homepage at: http://home.gulfsouth.verio.net/~pepbaker/reunion.htm. The hotel headquarters for this reunion is the Holiday Inn-Kulpsville, 1750 Sumneytown Pike, Kulpsville, PA 19443; (215)368-3800 only for direct rate of $64 per night. I will have some copies of the registration blank with me in Hot Springs.
