A Brief Family History

Although this is a "Whiteman" web site, you may find that many other names are just as prominent. KIRK, the family line my husband's mother comes from, MCDANIEL, CATE and ELROD, my family lines, and all kinds of family branches. While it may be confusing, it is fun tying it all together. The information just continues to grow.

We wish you good hunting!
Marvin and Anne Whiteman

Where did our family come from? What part? The Kirk family immigrated from Ireland during the potato famine. Patrick Kirk became owner of a bar on First Street in Davenport, Iowa, and eventually the family moved to Kansas. Mathias Whiteman was in Pennsylvania, then Ohio. That family met up with the Kirk line in Kansas.
On Anne's side, The Pottengers were in England. John Pottenger was the immigrant, and he became the head of the line that produced the Isaac line, who wound up in Texas with Lucinda Isaac(s) and her brood.
As we reach into the past with each line, we discover those who came from many places. Cora Edith Sprague's family came to the the United States through Canada. Their name was Appleton. The Spragues were in Pennsylvania (and we haven't found Daniel yet.) Daniel was known as a Riverboat man, who had a show (medicine show maybe) where he used to leviate Cora. His name was "Professor Silverton" we are told. No proof of that, yet.
As you can see, this is an ongoing project that requires a lot of research and contact with others doing the same. Since you have arrived at this site, you are probably looking for someone, too.
I hope we are of use to you. Please go to the "Twig" page and let us know if we are!

Looking for Rundells .... this is one of my most difficult lines. If you know anything about the Rundells in Iron County, Missouri, please let me know! I understand that twin brothers came to this country, each into a different port. I would love to know more!
